Strattera- Lethergy and NauseaI have experimented when to take the med. and that has proven beneficial to getting rid of most of the side effects. If i take it when I wake up in the morning, say around 7:30, I am really sick to my stomach and for the next few hours I feel like I have to go back to bed. If I take it when I go to bed, I don't have the sickness, I'm able to fall asleep quickly, but then I'm up by 3am. So, I'm now taking it at 4:30am and that seems to be the best time for me. I sleep off those first few hours, I'm not sick anymore, but my husband is tired of my waking him up when I take it and I miss being able to sleep through the night. (I feel like I did when I had babies) Has anyone figured out how to control the nausea and sleepiness problems? It is said that one either loves or hates this medicine. It really works for me when I actually take it at 4:30 and not wait until 7:30, so I guess you could say I love it. I just wish this was an easy medicine to take. Hi when my son was on it, we never figured out how to make it work for him. He was so sick when he took the pill every day, that he ended up missing a lot of school, so i had to have him changed off it. I hope you find what works best for you. Happy Girl, Hi. How do you split the dose? My son , 9 years old, started Strattera a little over 2 weeks ago. He had been on Concerta for 2 years, but I wasn't happy with the side effects. We give him the Strattera before bedtime - 25mg - because if I give it in the morning he is horrendously tired and gets a belly ache. But, by noon time the pill seems to wear off. I hear about splitting the dosage, but how do you do that if it's 25mg and the only smaller dose is 10mg? Do you know if a higher dose at bedtime would make it last longer during the day? Thanks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,dara Hi Dara, My son is on 20mg. - so its 10mg.am and 10mg.pm. Maybe you could start with this and increase to 20mg. am with 10mg.pm, etc. I think the key is starting slow and making small changes slowly. My son was tired and nauseous at first but this resolved. Just go slow and hang it because the side effects do go away. I would increase the dose if needed every 2 weeks and not before. Good Luck. Hi Happy Girl, Thanks for the info. I went to the doctor and he told me to open up the capsule and give him half the powder with apple sauce in the morning and half at night. But, now I read on the Strattera web site not to do that. He's on 25mg, so there is no half pills for that. But maybe he could do 18mg in the morn and 10mg at night. I'll have to call him. I have to say that the tiredness and nauseousness went away by giving half the dose each time. I tell you this is so overwhelming at times trying to figure out the meds and trying all-natural pills that prove to be disappointing all the time. Anyway, thanks again for the info and have a good night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!daraHave you tried splitting the dose? That worked for my son. |
