what should I expect | ADHD Information

CG - have you had any councilling with your meds?  They can teach you new coping skills for anxiety - and ways to help you relax.  The meds only help you stop falling for the urges - not how to live like everyone else knows how automatically.

It doesn't have to be a psychiatrist - they can prescribe meds but you already have that.  A psychologist or professional councillor versed in adult ADHD can help a lot too.

Don't knock it - it really helps.  I've learned where I set my own traps in life - and now when I get anxious I know what to look for and how to step back a bit and try something else.

Good luck on this one!  Also, I hear strattera can take months to fully develop in your system - so might change soon for you again.  Glad you didn't get the zombie effect - I felt like I used to on pot things would just slow to a stop and I would have someone tell me I was staring into space.  Wow - far out man!!

I was in your spot not too long ago.

Starting ADHD medication has been one of the most confusing things I have ever undertaken!!  I think its because it is something that affects our brain chemistry and since its our brains than have a change, can we use that same brain to assess those changes appropriately?

You've done the right thing by getting opinions of others around you. It looks like the strattera is helping you.  But sometimes a person needs to titrate the dose up and down til they find the best solution. I've finally found my balance on the meds after it seems like a long trial.

I went to a too calm feeling. I knew then to back down to the last dose that I tried. Funny, didnt know I was too calm, my neice brought that up. I was acting like a mature 40 yr old woman... ummm well, I have NEVER acted like a mature 4o yr old!! LOL

Decided that I wanted to keep a little "squirleyness" to say fun to my neice and kids. Yep, I'm still a little hyper, silly, etc... but I have a lot more control than I have had previously of my emotions, impulsivity, and thinking processes.

I still blank out occasionally, but not often... if you are still struggling a lot with that aspect, it might be worth an increase or a change. The bad part about it is only you will know for sure what is right for you no one can really give you a definitive answer.

I had asked many times how will I know when I have the meds right? I kept getting essentially the answer, "You'll just know"  Geez, I hated that answer, but its really the only answer that can be given.. When it's right, you'll pretty much know.... dont give up trying to get there because it is so worth it when you find that ballance!

Thanks Sherry - Glad to know I'm not the only squirrely one around.  The blanks bother me some, but bother others more.

I can take the vivid dreams too, it's the vivid nightmares I'm having trouble with.  Not even sure that is med related thou
Going to post this here because I'm fellin really random & a lot anxious.  try to senquence.  think in lists

1. what should I expect from medication?  should I still fell this hyper?  I've only been on strattera for 3 months and seem like the only person in the universe that likes it.  But, is it doing what it suppose to do?  only meds i've taken for ADHD.
Dr. says I'm more focused and able to stay on topic better
DH says I'm much calmer
some of the neg impulsiveness is gone
Still blank out too often
Still piss people off too often
Still impulsive

2. Nightmares - had nightmares before meds, but pretty freaked out over one I just woke up from.  The really sick & scary kind that sent me to the Psych in first place.   The kind that could send me into panic.

3. need more/dif meds
or more behavior management?

If I had read the side effects here on Strattera probably would have never took it.
Doesn't make me sick or zombie +
Makes me sleep better +
increased libido + - ( don't really know if this is always so good)
calms me down a little

what think you??????????????????????????????????
