List your accomplishments!!!! | ADHD Information

Share

I thought it would be nice to list our accomplishments.  So many times these threads are full of struggles and how we can relate.  I know that many of us have accomplished great things, even though they may last only a short while, perhaps longer.  List yours and we can all celebrate!!

Here are two of mine:

I have raised five children! ( three still in the process of being rasied!)

I graduated from college!

Great idea!!  I noticed people are reading but nobody's posting.  So, I'm gonna post - I think it's the fact that we don't like to brag.

I have a master's degree and got a 3.8 gpa when I did it (10 years ago, my undergrad, got a 2.1)

I can safely say I am familiar with a lot of different things - teacher, director of a learning center, bartender, massage therapist, telemarketer, motivational speaker, corporate trainer, gym owner.

Own my own business - SlenderLady Fitness, running 11 months so far!!  Severely in debt, but still trying!

ahh its not bragging when you have adhd.. its an accomplishment of the highest order...

to date: a double undergraduate degree, honours, double masters and almost completed my phd in gifted disabled learning..

current profession - teaching teenage dirtbags that have no conscience (do i sound bitter and twisted??)

desire - to teach teenagers that actually want to learn and cause me no grief... chances of that happening to me are zilch, milch, kilch and none...

raising my daughter and dear husband
Brookelea, I'm jealous of all your degrees - even though I may be ADHD I love school - well, I love learning, hate tests and all that.  I often think about going back for my ph.d but that would require money, time, money, an idea as to what to go for (so many things I would do), money and a thesis - no way.Uh, you sure you want me to post? Maybe I'll wait a while.
I've become accomplished at procrastination.
How do I deal with it? I wait 'til the last minute.

WOW!

What great accomplishments (for folks who have so much trouble focusing ;)  like me).

OK...lets see here-
1.  Two Degrees-- one in an art, one in a science.
2.  I built my own house (with help of family and friends)...including designing custom additions like a deck/aviary, an aquarium room and a loft office/workshop (Ok, it sounds swankier than it is) ;)
3.  I teach Middle Eastern Dance (aka Bellydance) and at one time managed a pretty good size performance troupe.
4.  I'm the webmaster for my professional organization.
5.  I took the hayfield that was my yard and over the years landscaped it into something pretty nice.
6.  I danced in a Moroccan restaurant for a while as a night job.
7.  I make wedding cakes as wedding gifts for family and close friends.
8.  I can do just about any kind of needlework or sewing.
9.  I danced in a ballet troupe in my 20's.
10.  I've written a few editorials etc that've been published.
11.  I've been a foster parent.
12.  I can actually make a really edible fruitcake.

Yeah I sucked at school stuff. no self esteem either so I should probably post this:

1. Taught my kid how to play soccer properly (apparently Americans dont know how to play it, especially the coaches)
2. responsible for finding extremely high profile (national press, cia, secret service investigation) hacker. Mentioned in Wired magazine because of it.
3. 2004 Manager of the Year - New England Independent poll (wrestling).
4. co-editor/producer of NECW Tv weekly internet TV show and started an online entertainment revolution. 4000 weekly views, over 150,000 total views.
5. part of the team that increased the live gate 1000.
6. got my skydiving license.
7. got the point where I get to work on what I want to when I want to - via delivering technological miracles on a bi-weekly basis.
8. Finally got medication for ADD
9. Got over my decade long writers block as far as music goes.

Hmmm slow year.

Fallen38644.5119560185
Why is this one so hard?
???

Cos you're like most of us who have no self esteem, except you haven't spent several thousand $$$ on therapy yet?
Geez, not sure If I want to post compared to you guy's accomplishements, Its not much..

raising two wonderful children.. who do well in school and are loving toward their parents and others ( ok, so their not so loving toward each other.. but we're workin on that) Got a degree in Speech communication. 9 semester hours away from a degree in Spanish! Erm, if you guys have ADHD, I need to find a new diagnosis!

I graduated salutatorian of my senior class, went on to college, quit, joined the Navy, sailed around for 4 years as a Cryptologic Technician, met my husband, got married, had a baby, and hope to officially retire at 24.
Maybe I need to do this to make myself feel better....

1. Been married going on 18 years to the same wonderful woman. Been
together for 21 years.
2. Managed to survive 10 years of infertility, 3 miscarriages, a full term
stillbirth, finally a blessing of a healthy baby boy, then 4 more
miscarriages, all without losing my mind, or my hope, or my marriage.
3. Lost my job when my boy was 4 months old because of my ADD, and
became a stay-at-home dad. The boy is now 3 and a half, and the
brightest happiest boy there is.
4. Decided to go to school for nursing, needed a 4.0 GPA to get into the
nursing program, so I worked my butt off and got it. I graduate with an
associates degree in Nursing in May '06. Then I take the boards and
become an RN. Meanwhile, I barely got out of high school 22 years ago.
5. I got the only A in my nursing class last semester.
6. I'm proud of myself for the first time in a long time.
7. Own my own home since 1992
8. Restored my 1972 Buick Skylark myself.
9. I sat down with a drum set and played them the very first time I tried.
So I got my own set and now I'm pretty darn good.
10. I wrote built purpose specific applications for Fortune 10 companies
using software for which I had no formal training. It needed doing, and
nobdoy else could, so I did. I have a knack that way.
11. Had my own column in a newletter about ADD. Been urged to compile
my writing into a book, but who's got time?

There's probably more. I wish I could remember these more often. Most
of the time I'm not thinking of myself very positively.

Oh, my boy just came over to me, and spontaneously gave me a big hug
and told me that he loves me. Never mind everything I listed. My boy
trumps them all.

SRskylarkragtop38644.7243402778Why is this one so hard? My life used to be a big fat mess. I was a drug addict with no life outside of drugs and a codependent relationship with a fellow loser addict.

I am still crawling out of this mess. For the first time, I have a steady, legitimate job. I got out of jail. I got out of rehab. I graduated from college a few months ago. I walk my dog regularly. I go to the gym. I used to not want a dog, because I was too F'ed up to take care of it.  He would have starved to death. I used to beg for change. Now I volunteer at a soup kitchen.

Soon there will be more accomplishments!
TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!!!LOL

I guess I could call this an accomplishment, 2 months ago when my wife and I split up, I was sleeping on my mothers couch, no job, no money, my truck was broke down,

now I have a great Job, that keeps my mind busy, my truck is fixed and I have my own place, I even have some pride again which I'm not sure where on the way to hitting bottom I lost it,

I'm on med's and going to therapy once a week, I'm feeling better then I was thats for sure, a lot less emotion's spilling out, and I'm not as depressed as I was, hell I even flirt now, it's fun again! but a lot of quilt for not believeing in myself enough to get strong years ago, It wouldn't of taken damaging my family and losing everything.I don't think I had a lot of faith in myself. but i'm learning I can do anything I want as long as I keep all the other thought's from taking control. the med's seem to help there, can't wait until they are full strength
Yes, that counts too... believe it or not

If you have people in your life that cry because of a choice or non choice you have made - that means that you must have people in your life that care for and love you.  If you are able to cry too, that means that the caring goes both ways  Hope that makes sense...
I make people blush

Sometimes, too, me

Can I count now?
ummm, no... well, wait,  hmmm... are they laughing when they are blushing???

how many different ways can i say no???

no...
um, i made it here, so that is my accomplishment. well it is great reading what everyone has accomplished. I was diagnosed 3
months ago with ADHD after inially doubting there was such a thing. I have
a BeD, a Grad Dip Applied Science, a Masters Degree and am just
completing my Phd. Actually it was whilst doing my PhD that I hit a brick
wall that eventually led to my diagnosis. It has definitely changed my life for
the better. I have three children and I can now deal with them effectively and
am definitely a much better parent. This is my greatest acheivent! I have
absolutely no side effects from the dexamphetamines. I even take them just
before I go to bed and I sleep better than I ever have.

brooklea... ummm oops, I stand corrected

in that case it doesnt count now does it.

Sherry
