Help! I'm about ready to cry, screem or just freak out! Today started out good. I was hired for a job that i had applyed for last week. not exactly what i wanted, but its day work. Yes thats right DAYS! I should jumping for joy. NOT

I had to find a new family doc, since i'm on fioricet for headaches and zanaflex for a buldging disk in my back, b/c even though my theripist felt comfortable with those two meds along with the others she prescribes, my family doc thinks i should stop the fioricet and zanaflex. This all happend today and i'm a nervous wreck! I was told i cant just stop taking the meds, but they don't feel comfortable with the quanity, so they cut me off alltogether. Sometimes i think the whole office is ADD, b/c NOBODY is ever on the same page!

does anyone else take meds for headaches? also those meds the therapist dosn't prescribe. I guess i am taking alot. 6 fioricet a day. Is there anyother med for headaches? the family doc thinks my ADD might have something to do with the headaches. I dread starting a new job with these headaches. Some are tension and some are change of life. Either way it sucks.

Can any of y'all help me? Please.

Hi Dieburnbot, yes i do take meds for ADD. I'm on adderall 20mg 3 times a day. I should have mentioned that. Also i have never heard of getting headaches from ADD.

Today things started to fall into place. I went to a new doc, and when he found out who my other doc was, i think he also knew he was a quack! I know tour right about the fioricet and gettting rebound headaches. But after getting my full medical history and learning that i have been on fiorcet for so many yrs. and have tryed other things stuff and nothing seems to work as well, he took me on as a patient. Instead of 6 a day, he cut me down to 4, which is OK with me. once i get my bloodwork done, he said he can increase the dose. I think its smart to try to stick with 4. I'm just so sick of taking meds. I've also tried fiorinal. not much relief. I've always had headaches, even before taking the adderall.

The other side effects of fioricet i have never expierenced. Thanks for your help. I'm looking forward to starting the job mon.

Do you take meds for your ADD?  If so, what are you meds called?  If you don't take anything for your ADD and get headaches, well chances are that your ADD isn't causing it.  I've never heard of anyone getting headaches because they have ADD.

A lot of ADD meds have headaches as their side effects so that is the only thing that I can think of, but if you aren't taking any meds for it then I have no idea.

As for a medicine, I read that regular use can cause rebound headaches, so if you are using it regularly that could be causing your problems.  There is another drug (FIORINAL) that is also used to treat headaches, it has the pretty much has the exact same ingredients as fioricet but it contains aspirin instead of acetominophen.  You can ask your doctor if that might work better for you.  Unfortunately it also has the rebound headaches as its side effect.

Here are the side effects for fioricet:

"Fioricet may cause lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea, and sleeping disturbances the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor.  Regular use can cause rebound headache, which may not respond to usually effective preventive treatments.  Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: a rapid/ irregular heartbeat. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist."

I don't know what else to tell you, but good luck.

Lanta- My doc is thinking about putting me on a beta blocker or calcium channel blocker for my chronic and (sometimes) dibilitation headaches. They're preventative meds and I really hope they work! I heard about the rebound headaches too and I haven't heard the MD community giving that theory much credit. Mostly they feel that "rebound headaches" from regular analgesics are because the root of the problem is vascular or muscular. I have heard of people who get migranes up to 3 times a day have great success on Atenolol (beta blocker) reducing their headaches to a much lesser freequency. Sounds like your MD's a quack and it was good you switched! Good luck with your new job!!! I know you'll do GREAT!

Hi Lizzy, my old doc was a SUPERQUACK! The last nigh at my old job, i met 2 other people who still have him as a doc. And the funniest thing was we all refered to his assistant as " Becca the bitch".

I'm a little nervous about starting a new job, so thanks for the vote of confidence
