my daughter metabolizes Ritalin very fast and needs a daily dose way over the manufacturer's recommended limit. our insurance company is now refusing to fill her prescription. any ideas on how to get them to change their position or sucessfully appeal?
Work with your doctor, as he should have the power to intercede with your insurance company. Ins. Plans all very and will only cover what the plans says. We tried fighting for St and still denied cause of how the plan is stated. Ask for a Eob which should say why being denied. The manufacturer of Ritalin has a special plan for low-income earners to get prepaid meds. someone around here posted the link to the application - was it brooklea? Not sure. But they have something available.
Maybe switch to generic? Or - if dexedrine is not counterindicated - you could go that way. It's cheaper - and I get on my insurance plan in Canada 120 caps of dexedrine 10mg at 20 dollars my cost .. Ritalin or the other meds would be triple or higher for this amount. I get enough for 40mg per day and I split 20 and 20. It's extended release and works 6 hours per dosage - with no down time crash that I can detect.
Someone know which thread the link is on?
Oh which insurance company btw? And has the MD tried an alternative - as the insurance cos usually go right up to the max dose allowable safely before not paying. Interesting.
