To me, the ideal career is one in which you are active, busy, and itellectually challenged.
I'm a teacher, it works great for me because I'm one of the "specials".
That means I don't worry about standardized tests or specific standards that each child has to meet. I get to be up and moving, the pace changes daily, I get to be creative, silly and get lots of hugs from children who seem to really like both me and my classroom!
I don't know how regular ed teachers can survive. I see the quiet classrooms with children doing independent work and the teacher at the desk.... I have NEVER sat behind my desk when there were students in the room. The boredome would simply KILL me!
My room is alive and vibrant.. my kids are talking while they work, some standing at their desks because they like it that way. children are free to leave their seats for kleenexes, sharpened pencils, etc.. without asking for permission..
this sounds like it would be chaos.. but it is not!! There are limitations.. but they are more general in nature.. the main rule in my room is RESPECT. When you have respect for those in authority, for each other, and for the materials that you use.. everything else falls into place.
That is my ideal career.. we work together, have fun, and learn in the process!!

I'm lucky that I've been able to find a job that I like, and fits for ADHD! IT really depends on your interest to be able to find the right job, and it's not always the highest paying jobs that are most satisfying. As my handle implies, yes , I'm a repairman. Always work to be done, and its never excessively repetitive because different machines break everyday! But I'd die or be fired if I was a production worker
. You just need to find the right area to work in, pediatrics is a great job too, and may not be as bad as 'pill despensing'. good luck, I hope this helps.Does anyone have suggestions for careers that fit in well with ADHD? I have recently been diagnosed at age 36, and am having a lot of difficulty with my job. My manager pulled me aside and asked if I noticed that I was ALWAYS assigned to the newborn nursery or Operating rooms for C-Sections? I guess I thought the previous shifts charge nurse knew I liked both, but she told me that my coworkers have complained that while I multi-task, I don't multi-finish, and if it's not right in front of me (babies or surgical instruments), I'm a lost ball in a patch of high weeds. After all the years in college and healthcare, maybe I'm not cut out for this. Anybody out there work in healthcare and manage it well? Hey ADDMamA,good luck in the job. what about teaching in your proffesion. i need to move and do. i am a child care teacher with little rugrats. i am always moving and doing. I so best at multi tasking. so look at the hospital you are in and all the jobs and evaluate what each job requires, maybe there is one perfect for you. You made this far. i am sure you willbe able to make it further.
i actually would love to be a special ed teacher. My next career.
