As a last resort, there is a generic available for Tegretol, a close chemical cousin of Trileptal. It works at least as well, but tends to have more side effects and more potential drug interactions. If he is doing well on Trileptal, switching to something else is not a desirable option, but if the situation is desperate he will likely do well on Tegretol because it is so similar to Trileptal.
thanks guys!!!! in our state no child can go without health insurance...i have applied but it could take up to 45 days to hear anything...so in the mean time i have to pay out of pocket... i was told we would be reinbursed but hell it still alot of $$$.. i did just get dillons risperdal..THANK GOD.. that is the one that cost 3.00..but we will need his trileptal soon and that cost is around 5.00..i could just kill hubby Neither of those is available in generic. Jannsen does have a patient assistance program for Risperdal. You can access it at risperdal.com under patient information. I assume there is a comparable program for trileptal, but I don't know details about it. Most docs also have samples on hand, and are willing to help out during the period in which you are uninsured. Often if you call they will put samples at the desk for you to pick up without an appointment. It is worth asking your doc about. Some generics don't have quite the same effects and swapping evenly between generic and brand name stimulants may not give the best results.
Health insurance was supposed to be made transportable from job to job by a bill called 'COBRA', it may be an option, but you have to pay what the employer was paying for the insurance during the period, plus the co-pay cost of meds.
repairman38651.2547685185thank you all... dillon is on trileptal and risperdal..i don't think there is any generic for themdarling hubby decided to quit this job...big mistake..but now we don't have health insurance and dillon is on three different medications and two of them are very expensive..one alone is 3.00 a month..just wondering does anyone know if the drug company will send coupons to help with the cost of the meds.. isn't there a cheaper generic drug that you can buy??
