Adderrall and weight maintenance | ADHD Information
Fallen and Shock - thanks for the speedy responses...
Fallen - soy protein shakes sound like an awesome idea - i will check them out right now (going to store)
shock - i am happy for you - I have thought a lot about how it would be
great for those who've struggled with their weight - i don't want to
say this the wrong way but I have actually wished I had "a buffer zone"
because I am finding out there is a reason why they have a minimum on
the health weight charts. I am worried about things like muscular
atrophy, malnutrition, and especially what it will do in the long
term when I get old. I keep telling myserlf I need to excercise
more even lift weights but I don't have time. I walk a mile to work and
a mile back every day and then is my exercise for the day. thanks
again.
i have just posted with the same problem. i am female 5'6" vegetarian,
but i try to eat mainly organic and vegan. i have lost 10+ lbs since
adderall/amphetamines but i am small and this is a huge difference. if
you find anything works for you please contact me, and i will do the
same. i know i am eating healthy and eating "enough" but it just
doesn't feel right for people to see an "anorexic skeleton" because i
don't follow the typical "american diet" that can handle this medicine
(that has worked wonders for me).

thank you, this is an awesome community... responding so
thoughtfully and promptly to a total newbie (this thread was my first
post).
All (especially anna foxx) - I found a canaster of GenSoy vegan protein
shake powder (strawberry banana shake flavor) at Fry' s Food and Drug
(Arizona's Kroger franchise) in the Nature Market. I just blended a
scoop of it in with a cup of Silk and it is very frothy and refreshing
and easy going down. Got it on sale for 8 bucks for 18 servings,
even full price (10 bucks) it will be worth it.
Also, AnnaFoxx.... Do you know how many calories are in one Newman-O
(Paul Newman's version of Oreos).... 65 calories a cookie! And
amazingly they're vegan and I think Oreos are "accidentally vegan"
also.
Another surprising vegan fact I found out today - One can of RedBull (8.5 oz) has 80% of rec'd daily B^12 and it is vegan.
GlenW.... I am actually blessed to have a state employee as a spouse
who has kick ass medical insurance that pays for Remicaid infusions....
if your bro-in-law hasn't looked into this and if he has decent
insurance that might pay for it... tell him to look into it....
my quality of life before I went on it had been reduced to negative....
I was miserable and no medicine was helping... you get an infusio
nevery 2 months and the result has been amazing... it costs without
insurance like 2,000 bucks an infusion... very pricy and most
insurances of course laugh at the thought of covering it.
shock --- since you started it.... get yourself a free dvd...meetyourmeat.com
It's a concern for me that you have Crohn's. My bro-inlaw has it - and I know that when it flares for you it means you can't absorb the nutrients like normal and you lose a lot of fluid that way too.
Make sure you keep track of calories in. The shakes idea is good - you most likely are not getting intake of enough calories for what you use up in daily life. Since you are vegan your choices for bulking agents is limited - so soy and other legumes is your best protein bet.
I have had a couple of bouts with IBS since starting dexedrine a year ago. The doc says that all amphetamines have an effect on the smooth muscles in the body - including the intestine. It can cause reverse ripples in the intestine that are like colic for a child - they move in opposition to normal peristalsis. I'm on dicetel - very mild IBS meds that smooth out the action and I can eat normally as long as I don't get careless and forget to take them.
Lots of fluids!! Remember - adderall is a mild diuretic - so you can become deyhdrated without realizing it. Keep up with several glasses of water a day!

I'm a vegetarian that loves cheesburgers. I eat burgers because I
realized that a cow can kill you and if given the chance...he
will...and your entire family.
you can be tiny and thin and still healthy. just make sure you eat right, take
vitamins and go out and get a ton of protein shakes (the 35 grams kind). If you're in the US I think it's Shaws that has the Natural Harvest
section, they have a pretty decent natural Soy protein that I've used
for years. Considering how offensive some of the protien powders taste
this ones really good :)
Can you go back to Ritalin?
I'm 5'8, 235 lb, a little blubbery, 50 yr, male. I'm binovore, eating vegetables and meat.
I have gained weight in the last 8 years on ritalin, but I've also been
on fattening anti-D's. Mayber I should switch to Adderal!
If anything, I think its the fruit and nuts I'm around (CenCal Ag), and
constantly feeding my face. I only eat meat maybe 3 or 4 times a week,
and then I preffer a Double Double, no pickles, onions, or mustard,
extra tomato.
Good luck. Let us know how you respond.
I have been an Adderrall now for six months. I was diagnosed as
ADHD back in 1997 at age of 20 and was put on Ritalin and was on
Ritalin for seven years when it became evident that it was not as
effective as it should be and hadn't for a while (if ever) beause of my
very rapid metabolism. I actually went a couple months without
any medication and was going crazy when I got on Adderall.
Adderrall has been amazing for me, the longer and more steady and
dependable coverage is great.... now my concern.
Before I went on Ritalin at age 20, I probably weighed 140 lbs, after 7
years of being on Ritalin and intermitten Crohn's Disease problems, my
weight fluctuated between 140 the high and when I was very sick with
Crohns it got down to 128. When I went off Ritalin, my weight
shot up form 135 to 150 in 2 months. Now, after being on Adderall for
six months I am struggling to keep my weight above 127. It is
very hard for me. For one thing, I went completely vegan in the past
year and my wife and we both have a very busy schedule so we naturally
"eat like birds." But I know that I need to gain weight and
maintain it. I have vowed to myself that if I can not hit 135 in
a month and cannot keep my fluctuations from going below
130(my weight fluctualtes VERY rapidly) I wil be forced to ask my
doctor to cut my dosage
Right nowe I am on 20mg 3 times a day of generic Adderall. I
would severely miss the all day coverage I get with my current dosage
but if I do not figure something out soon I am afraid that I will be
dealing with big issues connected to my being chronically
underweight. (I am 5-8 and half)
I am looking at the body weight calculators I can find online and they
all tell me I am either at the very, very lowest end of healthy body
weights or 5-10 lbs. below the minimum healthy body wieght parameters
for my height.
So does anyone have any tips to how they keep eating on Adderall? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Soy protein shakes, lots of them. I lost 15lbs in the 4 months I took
Adderall, not that I mind losing it, but it was a little shocking.
Mostly it's about good diet maintenance and learning to ignore the not
hungry feeling.
Check out fitness sites as there are plenty of vegan/vegatarian tips
for those that can't or wont use animal proteins for mass building.
I eat in the morning before I take the Adderall XR 30mgs. Then I have to eat
something around noon or so...I have to make it a habit, if not, I just won't
eat until evening.
By the way, when I started on Adderall XR in April I was 5' 10" 235 lbs (not a
super fatty, just a big guy). 6 months later (today) I'm 195 lbs. I'll probably
lose another 5 or 10 in the next couple months though. I love it! I have
struggled with my weight my whole life. Gone to the gym, dieted and all that
to no avail. Now, I don't even try and I lose the weight.
