Need help focusing on the details. | ADHD Information

omalley -

perhaps check out dexedrine or Adderall?  They both are for people who are less hyperactive in ADHD and more inattentive. Sounds like you fit the inattentive like me - unable to keep focus for long, memory lapses, unable to complete complex or boring tasks.

Now that I am on dexedrine tasks are no problem.  My memory has improved a great deal and I find that if I try that I can keep it together all day long.

It's worth looking into!

I'm on Concerta, which has been a great help with sitting for long periods of time, not bouncing my leg, pencil or finger, sitting through meetings and trainings and generally being more calm. However, I'm still messing up on the details of my job. Mostly, it involves numbers (filing, ordering, stapling appropriate stuff together) and email. In both cases, it could mean an offender walking away rather than being incarcerated because some idiot working for the PD (me) happened to misfile that oh-so-important lab report or thought she was forwarding the email supeona to the officer only to find out that she didn't ever put his name in the CC line. I've been talked about it several times but I still do it. I'm trying to slow down, look at every piece of paper several times, look at every email several times but it almost becomes a case where I don't believe myself and I never know if what I'm looking at is what I think it is or not.

Is there any medication that is better than Concerta for helping my brain focus in on the details more? I thought maybe someone else has the same kind of little problems that add up to a lot and hopefully, found something that worked.

I find that a combination of Ritalin LA and Wellbrutrin is working okay, although the Wellburtrin just began 10 days ago. So, the jury's still out, but I like it so far. Quick response, more so than other anti-Ds.

Shelly - just remember that a doctor/patient relationship is still a commercial transaction.  YOU are the customer and guess what? The customer is ALWAYS right!!

Unless you have a known history of abuse your MD ethically can't have a reasonable reason not to allow you to try a med if it can help.  Make your complaint known - and tell your MD that if they are SO worried that you'll go out and abuse the meds that he/she can give you it on a weekly basis while you try it out.  There's not much business in 7 x 10mg pills as they would only do a junkie about one dose on the street.  They take massive doses to get even a reasonable high of dexedrine.  The street favorite is Ritalin pills as they can be snorted to enhance the abusive qualities.

Dexedrine is great in that you can get spansules.  They are not easily abused as they are time-release - so they don't give the "rush" that junkies look for.  You get a slow uptake for 30 minutes, it works for 4 hours then the other half releases.  It's very easy to take and mild on your system in comparison to some others.  Do ask!!  Also - if a junkie was to try your spansules the time pills would most likely end up lodged in the idiot's nose!

you have just described me to a TEE my doctor has me on concerta 18mg to start because i was diag'd 2 weeks ago and i find the concerta slows me down and hurts my tummy. I would like to ask my doctor about dexedrine but the town I come from perscription drug abuse runs rampid so I really dont ask about med I just let him tell me !! I know this is wrong but im sure they deal with ppl all the time just trying to get drugs

Adderall XR + Wellbutrin seems to be working for me.
Today my boss told me she noticed that I am not talking as impulsively as I used to and that I am not wandering around the building as much as I did.   I have had no side effects on Adderall at all.   HEY, MY BOSS NOTICED!!   Now I'm wondering just what the heck I've said to her.  Don't remember  -  I still wander around too, but, now I don't jump and run just because something crossed my mind.  I can finish what I'm working on and then jump up and run.    Talk to ya later, gotta run!!!!!

 Omalley,

Try writing down little tidbits of the details of each case in a scribbler. Whenever I have to remember more than 2 numbers, I write them down somewhere.

I rarely have to check my writings... just the act of writing it down helps me to remember.
