Tell them you are not a psychologist or doctor and cannot help them. Tell them to go to the Library and do a search and read up on it themselves and that would give them all the info they need. As for your blabermouth friend I would be careful what you share with her. And you have a right to your feelings they should not keep bugging you. Maybe the school could do some education on it or do so yourself if given a chance.
I am a diabetic and when I got to pick my topic for a report in front of all I chose my illness that is if you are comfortable enough. I do not have ADHD but my child does and my husband has adult ADD.
I got diagnosed with ADHD a little bit ago, and because of my blabber-mouth friend, the entire school knows. This I don't mind, because most people are genuinely curious and want to know the truth about the disorder. But, there are those select few...
Many of my friends have come up to me and asked me all these silly questions about how I knew, or what was so difficult. I try to explain, even though I still don't understand it fully myself. Then, they proceed to ask me to diagnose them, in so many words. They always ask me where to find someone to test them, what drugs to ask for, how to talk to their parents, and whether or not I believe they have it.
I DON'T KNOW! I encourage them to be honest with their parents and ask to see a neuropsychiatrist (that's where I got my diagnosis) if they TRULY believe it is hindering their ability to function (according to the DSM-IV, it isn't a disorder if that's not true.) I also encourage them to try to stay away from the medications. I've had a rough time with them, and have only recently gotten to a place I can handle. BUT...
They always believe that b/c I have ADD (ADHD, cualquiera) I can diagnose anyone. It drives me mad? What do I say to these people, who I love and normally admire? Sometimes I believe their just being psychosomatic, or lazy, but then again that's what people said about me! What should I do? Am I being hipocritical (sp?)?
I have the same problem, all you can do is tell them "if you think you have it then talk to your parent or docter and get a test" of course you and i both know that no matter how many people say it or how right it may be, most teens don't talk to their doc or people. I don't. All you can do is do what you think is best, its their choice what they do.
I like you better as reality. He was just here.. oh there he went.. he morphed.
