It seems different doctors have different ways of evaluating patients for ADD. If a diagnosis of ADD is confirmed then you will probably start the medication wheel by trying different meds until the one that works best for you is found. You may luck out and find the first one prescribed to you works. Or it may take some trial and error for a few months. During this time you will also be recieving therapy to help you along the way and to help you deal with the symptoms.
Do not be surprised if you are also diagnosed with "comorbid" conditions. Basicaly that just means that you have one more condition that needs to be treated such as depression or anxiety.
I personally am diagnosed with ADHD, GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and depression. I take 3 different medications which seem to be working pretty well for me. It took me 3 months to get to that point. At the same time I am seeing a psychologist too for therapy for these conditions.
Feel free to ask any questions. This is a really nice group of folks here and very helpful!
Rachel G,
The testing I completed last week took about 2 hours. There were a series of test. one 15 minutes test on a computer with letters popping up in which you had to hit the space bar or left click a mouse as quickly as possible except when the letter X appeared. The others were test like connect the dots 3 different test with 3 different options connect the numbers, connect the letters and connect both (like in 1, A, 2, B). The last test was really a personality profile which was computerized where I had to answer 567 question about myself in a True/False manner. It was actually very interesting and frustrating.
Good luck with your testing.
