Going to the Doctor | ADHD Information

Going to a psychiatrist is definitely your best option. By the way, there is no such thing as "borderline ADD", you either have it or you don't. They told your parents that because back in the 80's they didn't know that ADD symtoms in women could be very different from that of men so they had a difficult time making a diagnosis in women unless their symptoms were very severe. Thus, they also assumed that it was more common in boys than in girls, when they are now discovering that it appears to occur equally in both genders.

My parents were told I was "borderline hyperactive", yet the doctors wanted me placed on Ritalin. In other words, I was a female with ADHD and they weren't recognizing gender-specific symtoms yet. As an adult I was tested again and before I was finished with all the tests, the psychiatrist was convinced I was ADHD mixed-type. This diagnosis was verified by two other therapists.

After coming to this forum I thought, "Wow, everybody here goes through the same things I do." So I made an appointment with my PC physician. He said that the problem with college students thinking they may have ADD is that they never bothered to learn proper study habits. But, he went ahead and referred me to a psychiatrist. So, I am going to the psychiatrist. I hope the doctor can help me because I really think that I need to get things under control before I graduate college or I won't be able to function in the workplace.Thanks.    I am kind of nervous about going to the doctor. I am sure everything will work out for the best.
