dyslexia and ADD | ADHD Information

Hello all,

I was diagnosed with dyslexia as a child. I went to a special school (around grade 3) for two years to help learn a new way to write and read. It worked for the most part, though to this day, to my shame I saddly still fall back to the old ways when I am tierd or in a rush. I  will invert an E or b, or transpose words in sentences, or become confused on how to spell simple words anyone past the second grade could master.

I also believe I have ADD, and I wonder if they are often seen together in individuals?

I have this horrible problem remembering peoples names, oh I remember thier faces all to well, but I draw a horrid blank on names. I will often call someone the wrong name, confusing two people. I cover this by mumbling the name i think is theirs,  or fake it, with a "Hey, hows it going"

Sometimes this can get really embarrasing, because I do this allot, and I am unsure how to remedy this. If its a person I deal with day in and day out,  I never forget the name, but if its been a while, or they just introduced themselves there is a good chance I am black before I reach out to shake their hands.

I don't know if this is dyslexia or ADD, or maybe I am showing some kind of disrespect by not forcing their name into my memory.

Sometime I think people might think i'm and idiot, I hope not, because I think I am a fairly bright, caring fellow with lots of insight and compassion, I just do odd stupid things to cover up my short commings...

                                                                                    Hmmmm

Hey Just Dave,

I forget peoples names all the time too.  I've gotten over being embarassed about it though and just warn all new people I meet ahead of time that I'm really bad with names and that I will probably be asking them again what their name is.  This approach kind of puts them off guard and relieves any embarassment in asking them again.  I think this is definetely ADHD as I don't have dyslexia.  I have read many places where dyslexia is often comorbid with ADHD though.

gettingagrip38188.6236689815I used to teach in a college a couple of years ago (one of my many jobs before my business became sustainable). The tutor there told me I had the symptoms of mild dyslexia. Spelling is not usually a problem for me, although I do sometimes write letters in the wrong order (I never used to). My writing is impossible to read, and my thoughts regularly go off on massive tangents. Gettingagrip, are there any words other than "comorbid" to describe symptoms as being related to each other!

ideaspring,

That is the medical term.  Following find the dictionary.com entries I could find.  I didn't know of another term so I tried some thesaurus entries but came up empty.
