ADHD is not necessarily a true "learning disorder" like dyslexia even though it does impair your ability to learn, so don't worry about not checking the box that indicates you have one. If questioned about it, you'll just look even more qualified if you know this! You could not be kicked out of school for not indicating you have a learning disorder, I'm pretty sure about that.
I would be honest with the doctor and the schools. I've heard of nurses, even doctors with ADHD so I don't see how it could prevent you from becoming a nurse. Are you taking a schedule II? Is that what you're worried about? If you're taking Strattera you should have no cause for concern. With the schedule IIs (Adderall, Concerta), they may suspect abuse. I think that's why they want to know about meds.
Perhaps you need to talk to the dean. Or, is there a resource center for persons with disabilities at your school? If so, I'd talk with them. You need to find out what your options are. It can't hurt to try and they can't count it against you.
Thanks cheeky!!! I think that I will talk to the school. Or I will just write down that I take meds. On the application it said that it was voluntary to check the box, so really I don't have a learning disorder if I have it under control right??LOL Anyways you made me feel a little better thank you for writing be back!! You don't know how much it will help me!!I don't have a learning disorder if I have it under control right??
Thats correct Hope, you dont have a learning disorder or disability. You have a problem with learning so there is a vast difference between the two. ADHD is a neurobiological medical condition. Cheeky gives you good advice with regard to talking to the office of disabilities. They would know best. Good luck!
