LEGAL? HELP | ADHD Information

Hey I have a question, if anyone could please tell me. I applied for nursing school and got in!!! Anyways on the application it had a check box for a learning disorder of course I did not check it, because sometimes you can not get in if you do. Even though it says that it will not effect your chances I still think that it does. Anyways I have to do a physical and tell what meds I am taking. I am taking meds for ADHD, but I do not want to write them down. The doctor told me it was up to me, but if I did not that when I took my boards and went to apply for a job that they could pull my med records, and if I did not put my meds down they could take away my liscense. Because the doctors records and the schools would be contridicating. In the doctors records it has my med history, but not the schools. The sheet of paper I have to fill out only says what kind of meds are you taking. What happens if someone like forgot to write it down. I take birth control too-what if I did not write that down? The doctor does not fill out the meds form I do. Can they do that- take my license away? I mean if I did write it down and the school saw that I did not put learning disorder could I be kicked out of school? Either way I am going to be screwed, but If anyone has some advice or had a similar experience-PLEASE let me know.

ADHD is not necessarily a true "learning disorder" like dyslexia even though it does impair your ability to learn, so don't worry about not checking the box that indicates you have one. If questioned about it, you'll just look even more qualified if you know this! You could not be kicked out of school for not indicating you have a learning disorder, I'm pretty sure about that.

I would be honest with the doctor and the schools. I've heard of nurses, even doctors with ADHD so I don't see how it could prevent you from becoming a nurse. Are you taking a schedule II? Is that what you're worried about? If you're taking Strattera you should have no cause for concern. With the schedule IIs (Adderall, Concerta), they may suspect abuse. I think that's why they want to know about meds.

Perhaps you need to talk to the dean. Or, is there a resource center for persons with disabilities at your school? If so, I'd talk with them. You need to find out what your options are. It can't hurt to try and they can't count it against you.

Thanks cheeky!!! I think that I will talk to the school. Or I will just write down that I take meds. On the application it said that it was voluntary to check the box, so really I don't have a learning disorder if I have it under control right??LOL Anyways you made me feel a little better thank you for writing be back!!  You don't know how much it will help me!!

I don't have a learning disorder if I have it under control right??

Thats correct Hope, you dont have a learning disorder or disability. You have a problem with learning so there is a vast difference between the two. ADHD is a neurobiological medical condition. Cheeky gives you good advice with regard to talking to the office of disabilities. They would know best. Good luck!
