switching docs | ADHD Information

Hello:

I am a 22-year-old college student who needs some advice about treating ADD. Last year I saw a psychiatrist who prescribed me Adderall XR for ADD. Unfortunately, she was extremely pricey and my parents couldn't afford the treatment anymore. I'm trying to finding a less expensive doctor, but I'm concerned about "the switch"; if she/he will agree with my old doctor, because I certainly benefited from the previous treatment. I've never switched docs, so I'm just trying to make the transition smooth. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Switching doctors is hard. Just try to ask around, see whose reasonably priced and who people recommend. Or tell your doctor about your financial situation and see what he/she says.I was dropped by a doctor who retired.  I don't have the money to see another doctor, and I barely had enough to pay for the meds.  I was just getting ready to look for work.  I had been working very very hard to learn new computer skills that would certainly have been marketable.  I can't do the stuff without the meds though.

Really! It's like glasses and reading.

Now I'm in a situation where I don't have a job.  I just lost my insurance on my car, so I can't dive.  I can't do the programming I had been doing.  I've been run around by doctors who won't see me unless I pay them up front.  Or who just don't want to work with me because I don't have insurance.

My life is totally screwed up by this, and all I need is the perscription.  I know what works!  I don't need a doctor! Well, except the law says I need one.

I hate this!  I want to hit somebody!
