Does anybody have information on the side effects of taking your child off medication for a period and putting them back on - like missing days???

Rae70 - we took our son completely off of his Concerta and did not restart it (for specific medical reasons).  We noticed that the full effect actually didn't wear off for several weeks.  Other than that - we had missed a day or two every once in awhile over a period of 2 years and really didn't see any side effects because of it.  I don't think you should worry too much if you miss a day or even two, if your child is taking a stimulant medication.

I don't have any experience with Strattera, but I understand that it takes longer to work, and that there is a ramping up phase.  I would probably ask my doctor about any issues related to missing days with this medication, or any other that isn't a stimulant.

Hi there.........if you take your child off stimulant drugs there is no weaning off process as stimulant drugs flush out of the system once the effective dose has worn off. There shouldnt be side effects as the medication is totally out of the system. Hope this helpsThanks for the info as with the muddled thinking I have in the morning I have been forgetting to give them to him a lot lately.  Must be why I have 4 kids - forget my pill too.  I feel a bit more stressed now - thanks again.

Rae70!!lol I am in the same boat!! with school being out, the morning routine is gone and I have been forgetting to give my son his meds also!! He is on Ritalin, and like Stratera it takes a couple weeks for it to build up in his system. For the past few days I have been on the ball with his meds, and the thing that has bothered me, is that he is starting off with the same minor side effects that he had when I first put him on it.
I wouldn't stress yourself out about it!:)

Cindy38191.7900115741unlike you yanky doods us poor aussies are already back in the school thing - how many weeks do your kids have? thanks for the humour - i love it.    Also we do not have many options for meds for our children - purely dex and ritalin - limits our choices - but also our decisions (i am sort of glad about that

Hey Rae!

You crack me up, forgetting to take your own pills, are ya? ahhahahah

I agree with Krobb, usually these meds have a specific "window" of effectiveness, and once you've passed that, that's it. So there shouldn't be any side effects from taking them off, either by accident (oops! ahahha) or on purpose, as krobb did.

Now, there are some meds that I hear you should'nt do that with, so if your children are on more than one med then you may wanna talk to the doc about it, just to be sure/safe, ya know?

Good luck, and don't worry, school starts again soon! Woohoo!
