wanted to introduce myself... | ADHD Information

Hello everyone, my name is Marisa.  I am a 24 year old college graduate.  I was recently diagnosed with adult ad/hd.  I think I have had it for awhile, but through school I was always a good student and kind of slipped under the radar.  I am working now and want to do better with my organization.  And also with my social skills!  I have a tendency to talk too much, too loud and too fast..and also give of myself too easily but I can't listen very well and I think I scare others off.

I am hoping that my diagnosis and meds will help me get my life in order and even make new friends.  I have been reading all your posts and have found a lot of helpful advice.

I am taking Strattera right now, on a lot of the posts I have noticed that some of you had negative experiences on it.  I am on 60mg and for the first week it worked great, but now I am feeling overly emotional and anxious again. Does anyone have any advice for that?

Anyway, I am really looking forward to getting to know some of you!!

Welcome! I've only been around here a few weeks but it has become a very important place for me. :) Tell your dr.

straterra is not for all,But It does take time to build up, You may need a bump up, or you may need to be removed. let your dr know of these changes. write it down..

I will tell you, 60mg is where they start strat at.

I will also tell you, sometimes we freak out when on meds because so many other things are flooding us that we never noticed before, sometimes it can be scary, and sometimes it can be a relief to know it really was something after all.

Either way, it can spook us away from meds because we finally see something we have missed all this time because of the adhd. It took me 2 months to finally be able to give a dr a clear report on meds and my reaction. I was so aware of everything with the focus back, It suprised me. And it also made me frightened until I realized that this is how it always has been. I just never did see it. It also gives me a new sense knowing life and things are this way, the right way, not the way they were always portrayed in my head.

good luck to you and keep us informed...

PS. if you have adhd now, you have always had it.

Thanks for your welcoming words and advice!  I am going to a new psychatrist next week and a counsler right before then so hopefully I will get some of my questions answered.

thanks again, sometimes it helps to get informed opinions and even opinions on what questions to ask since I have a lot floating around in my head and just trying to get them organized!

Welcome marisa! Even just knowing what you have (and you've had it almost all your life by the way!) and being aware of it is a big thing.

Now - with practice - you can slow down and say "wait - is it me or the ADHD talking?".  That can be very freeing.

Stick around - you'll get lots of good help and support!
