... said my old friend from high school when I told her about my recent diagnosis of ADD.
I just HAVE to share this 'cause I just think there might be someone here who sees the humor in this.. I told my family and I just get confused looks.. LOL.. here is what she said names are changed to protect the um so called innocent...
friend:
ADHD huh... That would explain A LOT! Me: A LOT! huh? Please enlighten me
I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this disorder!Friend: Chill out girl... You were always very high strung in high school. You
always had a hard time concentrating on one thing at a time. You always
wanted to do multiple things at once. It does make things a lot more clear
about the past and how you were always "on the run". It's almost like you
were on caffiene all the time (most of the time, I thought you had too much
soda to drink hence why you were like that). me: oh wow, I never saw that in myself! Kind of interesting since I am diagnosed"combined type" ( hyper and inattentive). I disagreed with the diagnosis because I have never viewed myself as hyper. LOL and here you go explaining hyper stuff!! Friend: You were always hyper... Between (friend 1), (friend 2) and myself we always joked that
you didn't know how to breathe in between sentences. You could have an
entire conversation without breathing once. We all knew you had the brains
- but we also thought you were hooked on soda half the time! Please someone else tell me they see the humor in this!! I cant believethat I never saw myself as hyper and then I get this bit of news!! SHerryThat is funny. I told my cousin who is my age and is a child psychologist that I had finally done research and realized how ADD/ADHD was affecting me. She was like, "Well, duh! I thought you knew that! You are TEXTBOOK ADD!" It was pretty funny that she thought I knew all along what an ADD'er I am.
I just traded long, long emails with my best friend from high school. I had written her originally to explain what I'd recently learned and to explain why I was such a nut-job then. She responded with the sweetest notes I've ever read... Each one was worth at least four kleenex. This is just a tidbit but the kindest thing anyone's ever said to me and is so illustrative of why she was always my best friend...
I actually remember the first time I met you because you were in some class with Amy (photography?) and she said there's this girl who is really great. You wrote some stupid folded note to Amy that she showed me and I thought it was hilarious and it's probably the only time in my life that I was jealous of my sister. I wanted a friend who was funny and unpredictable and interesting like that. And remember that at freshman convocation when [guy's name] invited us to his dorm party (that fateful night), it was because we were sitting behind him and you were cutting up the speakers and you were hilarious and dead on. I met my husband because he thought you were funny.
Rereading it here makes me want to cry again... what a way to make someone like me feel okay and loved....
