Looks like I have no choice . . . | ADHD Information

look for a neurologist? brain doctor? start making phone calls to psychiatrists psychologists counselors anybody. everyone in that feild knows someone that deals with crap different than theirs, so you could get referrals. maybe talk to elementary schools or high schools. try becuz thats what happened to me. i called a kids adhd place on accident and she was nice and gave me like 4 adult adhd numbers. and dont stop cuz i live in a tiny hick town south of seattle with a population of -4659 people. and we got all kinds of docs here.
oh but wait, seattle and the surrounding areas are known for their highest suicide rates. nevermind.
i would drive elsewhere if i was you. its an excuse to go on a trip! how fun! maybe i'll go look for a doctor out of town too.

I guess I should stress we live in the middle of nowhere -- and when I say my county, I mean an area that is bigger than the 4 smallest states, but only has a population of about 70,000.  We're limited in everything.  My husband has real bad vertigo and tinnitus, and the only ear/nose/throat doctor is an hour away, the next one is 4 hours away.  And of course, the one who is an hour away is a POS -- told my hubby to lay off the steak and salad for his jaw pain.  My hubby doesnt HAVE jaw pain.

I was trying to see if I could see that guy for meds and another psych who specializes in behavioural therapy at the same time, but insurance says no -- has to be the same doc :(

I don't know heidi - perhaps there is an MD in the area who knows about ADHD but is not listed as such? You could phone local clinics and ask.  Don't give up ok?!?!

My MD wasn't listed as knowing ADHD - but was knowledgeable enough to be able to refer me to the right people - and to keep an eye on my meds during times I cannot get to my psychiatrist.  I lucked out on the first try - but with what I know now I would travel out of my way to get what I want and need.

I hope you keep trying - have you checked your local CHADD group?  They have a database of MDs and psychiatrists who deal with ADHD in any area.  I'd be in touch with mine more often but they are an hour's drive in any direction so it's tough with gas being what it costs.

Good luck girl! If I can help in any way let me know.

Well, I'm off to work - I'll keep you in my thoughts!

What about in the next town?I called the mental health services clinics in the area, and apparently my doctor is the ONLY doctor in the county who sees adults for ADHD treatment.

Wow.
