Bambibaby,
Just to clarify Reality's rambling posts, Wellbutrin is an antidepressant in the SNRI family, and it is prescribed for ADHD kids when stimulants fail. Adderall and Concerta are traditional stimulants used for the treatment of ADHD.
Because there is a possibility your son has bipolar disorder instead of ADHD, I would strongly encourage you to have him evaluated further before putting him on meds. Both antidepressants and stimulants can make bipolar kids much, much worse. (Believe me, I have been there, done that.)
The FDA Warning ...
July 1, 2005 -- The FDA has issued a public health advisory regarding data linking the possibility of an increased risk of suicidal behavior in adults taking antidepressants.
The FDA says it is reviewing recent scientific evidence showing a possible link. It is releasing this information now to update patients and health care providers with the latest information on this subject.
In October 2004, federal health officials ordered makers of antidepressants to use new warnings alerting doctors and patients that the medications increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and adolescents who take them.
Even before the publication of these recent reports, the FDA says it had already begun the process of reviewing available data to determine whether there is an increased risk of suicidal behavior in adults taking antidepressants.
The agency has asked manufacturers of these drugs to provide information from their studies in much the same way they approached evaluation of the risk of suicidal behavior in children taking antidepressants.
The review will involve hundreds of studies and may take more than a year to complete, it says.
In the meantime, the FDA is advising doctors and patients to be aware of the following:
Adults being treated with antidepressant medicines, particularly those being treated for depression, should be watched closely for worsening of depression and for increased suicidal thinking or behavior.
Close observation of adults may be especially important when antidepressant medications are started for the first time or when doses for the specific drugs prescribed have been changed.
Adults whose symptoms worsen while being treated with antidepressants, including an increase in suicidal thinking or behavior, should be evaluated by their health care professional.

DEA Report on Ritalin
http://ablechild.org/dea%20report%2010-1-95.htm
Methylphenidate is a psychomotor stimulant structurally and pharmacologically related to the amphetamines. Studies and case reports indicate that methylphenidate has the same dependence profile as other Schedule II stimulants. Like other Schedule II stimulants, abuse of methylphenidate can lead to tolerance and severe psychological dependence.27 Psychotic episodes, violent behavior and bizarre mannerisms have been reported.28 Intravenous29 and intranasal abuse can result in serious medical complications.
Yes it is....
And it has an FDA "Black Box Warning " on it regarding increased suicidal thoughts in children.
It is one of the antidepressants that is linked to causing increased risk of suicidal behavior.

I strongly urge you to do your homework on any prescription drug BEFORE you get the prescription filled !!

BB,
At the top of the message board for ADHD Medications, there is a section titled "Important Topics".
In there is a warning about Stratterra from the FDA.... about suicide and also liver damage.
I reccommend reading that one also.
Why does this seem like a BAIT POST....
