i think i'm carefree...doesnt that word seem to be the perfect fit?
As always, Glen you are " spot on" with your observartions!! ( I love that word ever since I heard that English expression on TV. LOL -- when its all good.. its spot on!)
I'm going to try some of those suggestions the next time my boss comes in. It has been better for me since beginning treatment, but I still get overly self consciuos when I see the boss writing, and if a co worker is looking over my shoulder, its not necessarily the analysis or feeling picked on.. its more just bothersome because I find it more difficult to concentrate on what I'm doing.
I'm gonna try the self talk and clearing my mind trick the next time it happens!
Thanks!!
It does work! Unless I'm totally hyper like a runaway train if I am thinking almost anything I'll think "wait - what is it I am thinking?" and try and work with my mind not against it. Sometimes useless junk gets in but it's so much less than it used to be.
It really helps me around people. The "wait" thought takes a fraction of a second and saves me face all the time.
Practice makes perfect!
jman - you're in a common place with that. I hate "close talkers", people who watch me over my shoulder, peek in on me, etc. I tend to think "what's he/she doing? why are they there?". Being observed is synonymous to us to being picked at or being analyzed for whether we are good enough. That can make any of us NUTS!
I find that now that I'm aware of my ADHDisms I can say "stop Glen - now ignore the people around you. You know what you need to do and that's all you will think about. These people have no part in what you are working on. Clear your mind and pretend there is nothing around you but space." It works most of the time.
I get watched at work about once a month. There are people who monitor all of us workers for quality and for us being safe workers. They carry a clipboard and are always making notes. Pre meds/therapy - it drove me crazy - I spent most of my time watching them and ended up messing up (naturally). I was worried about what they were writing - what they were thinking. Very unproductive thoughts.
Now I tell myself that they aren't there. I clear my mind as best I can and concentrate on my work. 9 times out of 10 it works for me.
Good luck - it takes work no matter how you cut it!
AbsolutelyIt depends on the person. People with certain types of personalities I do notwell, if someone is looking over my shoulder, I am distracted by their breathing, shuffling of feet, slight movement.. It just drives me nuts!!
As far as talking to someone directly, my mind wants to get started on whatever it is that they are describing to me, therefore, I'm really only hearing half of what the person is telling me in the first place. sometimes my thoughts start going off somewhere else, too..
BUT if I can just read it or figure out something on my own.. I can pretty much focus on it because I know I need to get it done... Hope that makes sense.

what do u mean focusing on what the other person is doing? U mean when there talking to u or what. Yep.I find that when I am beign told something directly or when I am working in the presence of someone over my shoulder or something I have ALOT more trouble focusing and paying attention. But if I get to look at it by myself without someone over my shoulder I can focus much better and understand things. Has anyone else noticed this with add innatentive?ditto.
I find I end up focusing on what the other person is doing rather than what I should be doing.. just go away and let me figure it out, LOL
