Ritalin not working | ADHD Information

Share

my son is 11 years old and for the last month ritalin has stopped working. he started taking the med in april of 2001. at first he was on 10 mg then 20mg in the end he was on 40mg. for the last year it was a wonder drug now it just cost money. so as of today he stated taking concerta.Do you find this drug to work? how long before it kicks in? Also the doc wants to put him on resperdol. I don't get it..resperdol is not for adhd. who out there is taking both these drugs?

what do you think of them? stories both good and bad.I don't want to put him on the resperdol.

ok so no one can help..no one is taking these drugs? no words of wisdom.

well so far I have found this board very unhelpful..i was (am)really worried about these new drugs for my son. I really wanted to know if these drugs helped or not. I found another board that answered all post even the silly ones. good luck with your kids hope the system doesn't push them under the carpet.it really suck down here. this board made me feel as alone as the school system and the world in general thanks.

Don't jump ship just yet......I'm sure you'll get a response....some boards on this forum go through slow periods, and if you posted during a troll bashing session your post may have simply gone unnoticed.

My son takes neither of those drugs so I cannot help you there.....but hang in there...I've gotten some really great help and support here.....

Try re-posting this on the parents board....you may have more luck.

Good luck

Hey lilas,

sorry I never saw your post

the only thing I can offer is that, yes, the ritlan dirivatives do seem to be a little less helpful for me over time. BUT, when I am off of the medication my problems are much worse, so there must still be some benefit.

I am on metadate CD right now, I was on concerta and thought it was GREAT!

The metadate has a lot of "up and down" for me that the concerta didnt have. but insurance wouldnt pay for the concerta so I had to switch.

Even though it is the same basic medication, the delivery system is different. So, the concerta might actually be more effective for your son due to the difference in how it is absorbed.

As for the  resperdol, I found this link on remedy find for you:

I don't know anything about this drug, but from what I read on the site, it may be useful for anxiety or rages if there are those symptoms present? Anyway, good luck, dont be afraid to ask the DR. for clear information about the medications and his reasoning for wanting to put your son on those... You have every right to ask.

Hey Lilas,

Welcome to the threads, sorry we missed you here.

Run a search on the keyword 'concerta', as there have been some valuable comments written by users of the medicine.

I'm a ritalator, and a firm believer in its long term effectiveness (8 years now and counting).
