Creative careers for ADD and hyper focus | ADHD Information
[QUOTE=juliajah]
I spent my day off today reading about the "fab labs"! I heard it on NPR. I have always felt like an Entrepreneur - I have so many ideas and so much drive and energy - but could not focus to actually make it all happen. Now I have hope. This will be interesting to see how others comment on this topic. Thanks for bringing it up!

Oh, do tell! What did they say about a "fab lab?" I've never heard of those but would sure like to!
I did 4 years in the Navy and although you can be discharged for having ADHD, I didn't mind it so much, especially being on a ship. Something new and exciting going on all the time, especially being a spook!
Now I'm unemployed but probably getting back into the IT industry. Fun.
I am in the bank industry and manage the IT "web" vendor relationships we contract. I guess the chaos of the .com and all seemed to fit my undiagnosed ADD. Now I am on adderall -going on week 4 - and see life in a new way as we all have personally experienced.
I am SO ready to move on to a more interesting and creative career! I spent my day off today reading about the "fab labs"! I heard it on NPR. I have always felt like an Entrepreneur - I have so many ideas and so much drive and energy - but could not focus to actually make it all happen. Now I have hope. Before figuring out what I had, I read that people with ADD seek out
creative careers in order to stimulate them. I recently was diagnosed with
ADD although I suspected for a long time. I guess it fits that I am an
advertising photographer. I have a very creative career, although
sometimes it seems like an anti-career. Because photography is
something that I love, when I work I have a tendency to hyper-focus and
work for 12 -15 hours without taking a break, and after the fun part is
over I have a hard time wrapping up and finishing the job ( that is what
assistants are for).
I am wondering how many people out there have or aspire to have
creative careers.I bet an environment like a Navy ship can really keep your focus.I'm a freelance writer and - get this - copy editor/proofreader. Not
sure how I've managed to make a living with the editing/proofreading
but somehow I catch the errors I need to catch; I have an affinity for
the language, so I don't have to pay as much attention, I guess.
I'm fairly recently diagnosed & haven't started any medication just
yet. I was on the fence about whether I wanted medication but I'm
hearing a lot of things here that make me think it'll be really
eye-opening...
I bet the way these people write really put your skills to the test.I want a creative career. I was a window dresser Gap, but didnt pay enough. SO now I am in an office for a crap retailer, typing in numbers all day. I love writing and photography. Should i go to college again and study to do something I love before I get sacked again...?
