the counselor sucked. i actually didnt even get to talk to her because: 1. i showed up a little late  so she wanted to reschedule for a later appt. and 2. when i spoke to her about rescheduling, i asked her impatiently (she was being rude) if i could just get a freakin adhd test. she tells me, "oh im not sure what u thought this service was for, but i only provide counseling, i dont have any tests". i said "well the chic that made this appt asks me tons of Q's and what i wanted out of all this and i told her tests and possibly meds and she told me u would help" she said ishould call someone else and whatever..

yea that was a wasts of time and effort. so i made another appt somewhere and its actually tomorrow. then sometime last week  i got in a little feud with my loving family that knows adhd is fake and all in my head. so i actually left for a couple days. i came back  cuz they said sorry and begged me to come home. now things are kind of ok with my mom, she took the time to listen to what adhd was for thr first time and is somewhat understanding. but what made me most mad is that my little sister that thinks she a freakin doctor, came in my room and took all my caffeine and energy supplements. she was SURE that wsas the problem. that the reason why i think i have adhd is because of all the energy supplements i take (which ive been told is a self medication trick used by lots of add people). so that really made me mad...i have to order the energy supplements from the internet and so i havent had anything for 3 days. i havent been able to study, i cant concentrate on anything, it just really sucks right now..

people should make a point to understand a problem before they make their own ignorant assumptions based on jelly beans. i bet my dumb sister is too cheap to buy her own crap so she took mine and left a dumb excuse that she thinks sounds justifiable.

hey Lost
try getting the book 'driven to distraction' or a similar one and let your mother have a look at it.  it will probably help them all to understand a little better what you are going through.

good luck.

and can you get an appt with a psych.  rather than a counselor if that is possible for you?

because ADDERALL is a schedule 2 narcotic, an amphetamine and the rules may be different in the States but i would be VERY surprised if they let a counselor give out prescriptions for it!!!!!

If you are on the Seattle are I reccomend contacting http://www.addresources.org/ they are based in the Seattle area. It is very important to find a professional who had experience diagnosing and treating adults with ADD. As many of us have found out it can be very challening to find such people too. Also there is not specific "test" to diagnois AD/HD is diagnosed by signs and symptoms. One of the most common ways for a professional to access somebody for AD/HD is through very thorugh interviews.

Here's a link to an article which gives tips for finding Adult ADD professionals http://livingwithadd.blogs.com/blog/2005/04/finding_profess. html

Lost - also you should be finding your local chapter of CHADD (www.chadd.org). They have tons of resources that might help you get along and get the support base that helps a lot.

Those energy supplements - do they have ephedra? Some of them aren't regulated on how much is in them or how pure the ingredients are so be careful.

Do get yourself a list of psychs that are qualified to test for ADHD - and get in to one of them.  The sooner you get some advice and some help the better you will feel.

I was getting worried about you.  I'm so sorry the appt. didn't go well.  I'm having a hard time finding someone for my son and he was diagnosed years ago.  The good news is that your family is listening!  They must have been worried about you.  I know I would have been.  Give mom a little more time.  Chances are that she would love an explanation that doesn't blame her.  You have know idea how many people used to tell me "Give me a week with him, he'll be a different kid" as though the hyper part of his adhd was just poor parenting.  Hang in there!
