We just started on concerta after postponing meds for years. My son is 10 years old and I've known he has ADHD for 3 years. We've been struggling with his hyperactivity in the classroom so long that we finally gave in. He was always in trouble and it's been a constant battle.
I have to say so far I've been amazed at the improvement. I haven't told the teachers and I'm waiting to get the feedback. I'm not happy about medication though and I'm hoping this will take the edge off his behavioor so that he can develop some new habits. My goal is to get him off it after some period. I don't know how long? But I figure he should be on it for 3-6 months.
I will be watching for any side effects such as you describe though.
Yes, we also fought medication for 3 years. My son was in trouble a lot in grade school and now is in Middle school and his behavior has really improved. His teachers say what a great kid he is and since this is a new school this year, they have no idea how much trouble he was in Grade School.
Like I said I really liked Concerta in the beginning. My son started at 18mg then went to 27mg and recently put on 36mg (because I thought his grades should have been better and maybe he wasn't focusing like he should). I'm just wondernig if going up to 36mg is causing his temper to flare. I called the Dr. and she told me to leave him on the 36mg because she said that is the normal dose but I just feel like that maybe it's too much because when he comes down he is just a bear....
