whats pingPing
The other half of pong.

Glad you asked.
I was diagnosed with ADD 2 weeks ago and the doc gave me concerta 18mg I find it helps a bit but takes a while to kick in and it is reeking havoc on my stomach constant aching and cramping. N E one else experience this I think it is a side effect. you need to talk to your dr about this.

the slower kick in is normal.

be careful of what you eat as well.

Maybe you need to eat a half hour before taking it.

Regardless, talk to your dr.

I found a little cramping - though I also get a little cramping with dexedrine.  It's possible that the strattera works similarly on the smooth muscle groups as the dexedrine does.  It can cause a backward spasm in the intestines causing a colic-like cramping.  Very painful at times I know.

My MD put me on dicetel - a very safe irritable bowel med and it works great! I still think that you might be happier with dexedrine or adderall - so do check with your MD.  Get what you pay for!!

I'm rooting for you here.

Hi Glenn i tried to vote for you on corner gas but i couldnt find ya Im  from canada ... are you

I'm canadian shelly - and I'm there! If you end up there again - check out the "comic genius" section - I'm number one! (glenW).  Vote if you can - that would be awesome!

It says i have to register lol but i cant figure out how ill keep trying Are you pregnant?

And yes you do have a choice, they will tell you that.

I am not so sure who your talking to dr wise.

 Time for a second opinion.

Buscopal is a pain suppresor for the stomach. it is new and used mainly for IBS and a few other things.

If you try it, and it doesn't work. Go to your er and seek assistance there. You may have something else happening.

This is shellyj1_02 lost my pw

I went to my doctor yesterday and told him what i did and didnt fell with the concerta...I expressed my concern with the fact that about 9-10pm i start to feel sad, He said we would counteract it with an anti-depressant.... I am completley against anti-depressants,,,, I also advised him of my complete abdominal  discomfort and he gives me something call buscopan for the pain in my stomach

I said I dont know how healthy all this can be a pill for add/adhd/ one to conteract the sadness i fell when the pill wears off and one the help with the pains in the stomach, so that is like 3 pills a day WHAT!!!! I think next week im just going to tell him although the concerta seems to be helping it wears off and i get sad. I asked him about just regular ritalin and he said it wears off too quick. I guess ill try I, no real choice in the matter but Im just going to stop if the stomach pain doesnt subside

Wow - I certainly didn't know that one!  You learn something every day.

Huh?

Lol the concerta not you  ha ha

Oh good! Whew!

LOL!!

Michele - have you tried dexedrine or adderall?? For inattentive ADHD (like mine) it works great!

It tends to clear the fog fast, lasts long (with the XR dosages like I take) and also has the added benefit of increasing your energy.  All good!

Glad I didn't bum you out - I was worried!

No, for some reason my doctor is set on Concerta I think he got a golf membership to push this drug   LOL he didnt seem willing to discuss anything other than something for my stomach.

You know glenn your the only one who talks to me on here

so i voted for ya again lol

Why thanks!

Maybe it's your short replies.  Others may have followed the ADHD urge to think you are upset with them.  I know that little voice said that a couple of times - but I know better these days.

Don't be scared to let your doctor know that you aren't happy the way things are proceeding.  You are the customer and the customer is always right!

Just let the MD know that the meds aren't doing what they are supposed to.  A decent MD will try different approaches - or at least explain why not.

Oh - and not a big deal but its GLEN - one N.  LOL - just a niggler for me!

Thanks for voting! They are tossing sour apples around the comedy site that I am here looking for 5 star votes and it's bothersome but I know where my heart is - right here!

I gave ya 5 stars buddy!!! I wish you luck, Sorry about the extra N lol. I just think docotors make me nervous, and Iam afraid he will think im just fisshing for pills like over half of the population of my town. Its a big problems here.

Thanks michelle!

Don't worry about what others do with their meds.  This is YOUR life!!

If your doc is worth anything he/she will know that you are genuine.  A junkie is pretty easy to tell for a professional.

Besides even a nervous doc can limit your amount of meds on hand to make it useless to a junkie.  A 2 week supply to you would last one day for a user.  A doc can limit you to weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. It's totally up to the doc.  Just would mean you have to visit more often - or in some areas they keep it in your pharmacy and dole it out to you the way the doc says to.  Here in Canada I have over a year's worth in the computer at my pharmacy but can only take it out once per month.  That's fine with me!

Thanks for the 5 stars.  I was getting bummed out at the people trying to make it look like I cheat - but I'm good now.

That is correct. The Concerta capsule is designed to release the medication without dissolving the capsule. The empty capsule passes through the digestive tract and out of the body without being digested. Concerta tablets are impermiable they do not digest a small hole at the top is punctured and the medication is realeased through this hole It is pushed through by a substance that expands so when it is done the capsule is full of the expanded substances and goes out the other end!!!! This is how it is supposed to work. It is designed this way But I write in blue ink.
I was on Effexor, then for the side effects propranolol, an anti-sweat one, and something else. So 1 + 3. Then I was on Ritalin LA, plus Provigil for the ADHD. Oh, the first was so I wasn't depressed. Then I was on Ambien. So, that was 7 meds / day, but dosing at night, in the morning, and in the nooning, and afternooning.

I am alive.

Now I'm on Cymbalta at night, Wellbutrin in the morning and nooning, RitLA in the morning, Provigil in the morning, Ambien at the sleeping, and propranolol twice a day.

I am still alive.

And doing well.

michele - have you tried dicetel? It's a good med and its cheap.   My MD got me on it when I got intestinal cramps using dexedrine.  It works well.  I tried Zelnorm but it was - let's just say a bit "too" effective.

If you want to try dicetel I bet the MD has samplers.  That's how I started it - the MD got me a month's worth to try out.

I could ask the pharm said anything in that same class would not be covered. I called the ins and they needed a DIN number so i will get that and call back. These concerta pill dont digest   ever they come out the same way the go in.Just went to pick up my buscopan   NOT COVERED by insurance 50 bucks called the doc not in the office till.Monday!!!Ill try my concerta with zantac maybe. Not preggers tho. I asked the pharm if there were something simalar to what my doc perscribed that the insurance would cover and they said nothing simalar that this drug is for stomach muscle spasams. and there isnt really anything simalar to this drug that i could get covered.

The DIN on dicetel is 02230684.  My insurance paid it no trouble.

Sure sounds like IBS or some other irritation.  To not even digest the med means it's not the meds fault but you have an underlying trouble with your system.  I would think that something that serious would be covered.  Maybe the MD isn't explaining it properly in his/her notes that the insurance agent is seeing?

Do get help with it.  It does no good if all your meds go straight through you!

Good luck with this.

Hey, Michelle,

Hang in there. You will find the right combo. Don't lose that job, okay?

I'm a success story as far as it comes to meds, tho not with work. Took a while. Call your doctor right away, why wait? I see mine once a month.

David
I see him every second tuesday  so it will be this tuesday i see him again

Michelle,

My 12-year-old son felt flat and inhibited on Concerta.  We switched him to Focalin XR, a refined version of Ritalin that is supposed to cause fewer side effects.  He has done very well on it.  Just a thought for you . . .

4th week on Concerta find myself very sad and depressed. Not wanting to tallk to anyone no motivation at first I did find a difference in a positive way now I dont even feel like getting up in the morning I almost just said to hell with it today and not  come to work but I would loose my job if I miss one more day. I think this is going to be a long horrible journey trying to find the right med. I want to give up and go back to the way I was

I have read that people who are dx with bi polar or depression ( "people" that I know being children mainly) have bad emotional side affects with concerta. It makes them either defiant/violent or depressed.  Is there something else going on that might be causing that?  Also, are you drinking enough water when you take your meds?  Dehidtration can cause stomach cramping as well.  It's important to drink enough water as it is, but the info. on my bottle of concerta says to drink plenty of water.  And yes, the pill doesn't digest.  My daughter had it for a bit and it comes out looking just like it did when it went in.
