Weight LossMy Grandson has been on adderal for 4 years now. The only side affect he has with it is the weight loss. He doesn't take the pill on weekends or holidays so we can get the weight back on him. A couple of years ago the Dr. threatened to put him into the hospital because he was starting to look anorexic . His Mom started making him shakes. She also makes him what ever he wants for breakfast. Sometimes Bacon and toast sometimes a cheese quesadillas. She tries to make sure there is more protein and fat then carbs because the protein hangs around longer and the fat makes the carb slow down in processing. He usually only eats one or two bites at school. His Mother makes sure dinner is at 7 or 7:30 because his pills are worn off by then so he will eat. Then if he wants a drink of milk and a snack at bedtime she lets him have it. Now that he is 11 he tries to force himself to eat. He gained 20 lbs over the summer....and has lost 15 of it....we are happy he has kept 5 pounds. Add protein mix to milk shakes. Fruit smoothies. Give meds after meals. Lessons stomach issues also. Warm chamomile/lavendar bath at night help. Parent's choice. Chamomile/Lavendar lotion after bath. Parent's choice. Leave out refine carbs at dinner helps also. I have never heard of that. She goes tomorrow to the drs so I will ask them about that. Yes she was on the short acting one. She peed the bed every night with ritalin though, and she wouldn't sleep with that also. It was a fight every night. Thanks for all your advice. I am new at all this. With the sleep issues and the appetite issues I really would think that Concerta probably isn't the best choice for your daugher. Was she on the short acting ritalin? If so, pls. consider trying metadate which many have found luck with. Its similar to Concerta (long lasting and ritalin based) but it only lasts 7 - 8 hours or so, giving your daughter time to eat and have less meds in her system at bedtime. My son began experiencing migrain headaches. That's when we said, enough is enough. That and the extreme mood swings were kind of scary. Most of those drugs are just plain scary if you ask me. Most kids can't even verbalize what they feel while on the drug. My daughter is on concerta and shes been losing weight. She lost about 4 pounds in a month. She weighs about 39-40 pounds. She is 3 feet 10 1/2 inches tall. Has anyone else experienced any weight loss?Yes this can be common with stims. Give her the meds as early as you can, but after breakfast, and then feed her like crazy in the evening. Or else try a shorter acting version of ritalin, like metadate or ritalin LAshe was on ritilin but it didn't help her as much. I love the way she acts when shes on concerta. I actually like being around her. I know that sounds bad. Shes only 6 so maybe it will even out soon? We go for a weight check on Thursday. I've been giving her pedisure too. BUt I can only afford one package a week with all the other expenses with 3 kids. This happened to my son while on Adderal. We gave it to him around 8am and he didn't eat for the rest of the day. He then wanted to feast at about 8pm. He also couldn't sleep. Those were the mild side effects. There were worse ones that we just couldn't tolerate so that was the end of that drug. yeah Amber doesn't sleep very well. We have to give her Clondine to help her sleep. It works really well though. But I wish I didn't have to give it to her. But she would be up till 2 am if I didn't.
