what do do about the adderall xr ?? | ADHD Information
hmm so i've been on adderall xr now for almost a month.
i found that 10 wore off after 6 hours and now i'm taking 15. and
then i take 5 mg of the immediate release once it wears off (usually
around 2 pm)
here's the problem: i feel like the 15 xr still isnt' as strong as i'd like it to be, but something is keeping me up!!
when i took the 10s of the xr, i slept like a baby... now i am having trouble falling asleep.
i don't get it ???
oops, i mean what TO do, not Do do
I have no experience with adderall xr, but from reading others posts
not falling asleep can be a side with adderall. Think it has
also been said you should call your doctor about it. Sorry,
there's no one but me to answer. Usually there are plenty posting
on adderall.
yes, i see my dr tomorrow so i'll figure something out. thanks. :)
I have/had the same problem. my dose was increased from 1 adderal XR 30mg a day to 2 adderal XR 30mg a day. I slept about 2 to 3 hours a night for a week. Then decided to get the Melatonin 3mcg at walmart. It didn't do anything. Then the next night (two nights ago) i went ahead and took 2 of the 3mcg Melatonin. (only b/c I've read alot of other's with ADD/HD take it when uable to sleep) I slept all the night through. Then last night again. It was the best ever. I didn't realized how much the lack of sleep for a week can totally tear a person down.

Hey wisdom1, how are you aware about stims & adult addiction? Are you saying that people with ADHD are more prone to addiction or are you saying that if you're an adult on a stim for a period of time you will become addicted?yeah, i have ambien too but i hate the idea of relying on it... i am prone to sleep problems anyway.
maybe i just can't take that IR adderall in the afternoon?
but then what do you do if you need some medicine then?

[QUOTE=deang008]
It's possible that it's the increased dose in
general that is affecting you.....and it's also possible that it's the
IR dose that is keeping you up. Also assess other areas of your life
(stress, exercise, nutrition, etc.) There are a number of factors that
can affect concentration and sleep patterns. Best of luck!

if it's the increased dose, is that something that will fade in time?
I take the time release 15 mg of adderral and it keeps me from falling asleep at night as well. I had my doctor prescribe me ambien, and it works like a charm. I do not take adderral every day though, as I dont seem to eat enough when I am on it. I try to take adderral right when I wake up, because if I take it closer to nine a.m. I will most certainly have trouble sleeping at 10:00 p.m. I am aware that adult add'ers are prone to addiction, so I am very conscious of how often I take ambien.

"Drugs should be used only as an absolute last resort... as in life threatening situation"
Thats pretty ironic of a statement because reality
is saying that drugs kill people. So if somebody needs a blood thinner
due to a blood clot in his brain. Then he would be putting
himself in a life threatening situation because he used a drug in a
life threatening sitiuation

The never ending question: Whos fault is it if a guy was in a car
crash and the person developed a clot in his brain, when the medicine
cleared the blood clot, that would have killed him, he died from
internal bleeding, from crash, due to the medicine not allowing the
blood to clot properly?
can't keep a job without meds
No job = no money
no money = no home
no money = no food
no food = no energy
no energy = no life
no life = death
Guess drugs are a life or death choice
I choose life - Thanks!!
Ignore reality bella - he's the guy I'm quoting as often as I can in my signature - the quote "Drugs should be used only as an absolute last resort... as in life threatening situation" -
He wants you ingnorant of the truth and not having the option of using safe - non-addictive meds because he thinks he knows best.
Just ignore him
Glen,
Why do you need to "believe" that your meds aren't addictive ?
Even the manufacturers say they are.
Even if they weren't addictive... you wouldn't stop taking them... so why is it so important to 'believe" that they aren't ?
That's the usual pathetic answer you always have to my answers. The old anti-med side-step.
Used as directed ADHD meds aren't addictive. Not in the slightest. Dexedrine and Methylphenidate have been around I would estimate longer than most of the people on this forum - and have been used effectively and are some of the least abused meds on the planet. Some will take overdoses and become dependent but that's not the fault of the meds, the doctors of the psychiactric community. It's because of the already addicted people looking to get high.
Keep saying the meds are addictive - you just want everyone off of every med - as you have been quoted as saying. You are just speaking the party line and it's lost it's fire a long time ago.
don't worry, glen - i've already learned to ignore reality.
it's frustrating that i come here for advice from people who know what
i am going through and have experienced the same medications, and i
have to wade through all of his ignorant propaganda...but there are
nuggets of good information on here

Yeah, me too.
Only way I can survive.
To keep the me I am alive.

I'll choose life, thank you.
Where's my drugs?
i think wisdom means that we as adhd adults have a propensity to become addicted to substances more so than those without adhd.
I don't think it's addiction that is the big worry bella - it's ESCAPISM. We drink too much to escape - do drugs for the same reason. My paternal uncles ALL drank to death - living like hermits and trying hard to escape reality. It's why I got myself in and forced myself to examine things. One uncle refused to go the eye doctor because he hoped he could ignore away cataracts. He ended up blind - stuck in a chair close to his TV alone - worried that someone would walk in and rob him but incapable of doing anything. Tragic.
But I'm drifting. I wanted to let you know that adderall and dexedrine do cause sleeplessness - for a short while during the adjustment time. Usually - it's a couple of weeks. Most of the side effects of dexedrine I experienced (feeling my heart beat race, jittery, weight loss, sleeplessness) left me within 2 weeks. Then I actually slept better because I worked better and was more content.
Good luck!
Can't hear you, Dave, your throat still hurt?
THAT sounds great. hopefully i'll experience the same....my dr.
put me on 20 of the xr hoping it will last a bit longer, and 5 of the
ir to take no later than 3 pm.
lucky for me, it's my fall break so i have 10 days for the sleeplessness to wear off
