Our 7 year old son just switched from Adderral XR 20 mg to 20 mg of the Metadate CD because of weight loss. How does any one feel that their child did on this. Did it help better, get worse, just looking for some insite as I'm nervouse about changing his meds.
Sorry no one has answered you yet. Hopefully you will get some feedback soon.
I am on metadate CD and have loved how it works for me. I'm not speedy feeling or really don't feel any different. just seem to be able to stay in the real world and stay more organized. My problem is more inattentive than hyperactivity. Here lately I have been wondering if it is getting less effective for me, but I am also wondering if it is the timing of doses or the other medications I take that may interact, etc etc..
On the whole, the metadate has been a good experience for me. But I'm an adult, I dont' know if or how it would be different for a child.
I also know that it is the same ingredient as ritalin - which ( I think, dont' quote me!) has been around even longer than the Adderal has for the purpose of ADHD treatment. my Doc refered to it as the "tried and true" treatment. His first line of treatment is one of the ritalin derivatives.
I wish you the best of luck!
My 10 year old grand-daughter has been on it for over a year and is still doing really well. She only takes it Mon- Fri for school (one before school and one from the school nurse at lunch). This is at the suggestion of her psychiatrist as this med can cause slowing in growth and it also tempers the weight loss. She is also off the meds during summer vacation. This schedule has worked real well for Bryanna (and for us too!). As long as we keep her busy on the weekends - no meltdowns from being off the meds! Good luck to you.
