1st Follow up appointment with Ped

I have my first follow up tomorrow for my boy, since he started meds.  Whew! where to start - been on dex now for 2 months, yes better at school, but comes down hard ie; angry, hostile, tearful, skinnier - I miss my muddled up son - but I am happier for him now he is doing better in school.

Does that sound okay to you?

Hey Rae!

What did the doc say about the varicose veins business? What about the other stuff? Have you already cut his dosage back, and if so, have you noticed an improvement in the things you listed? Please keep us posted, I'm no expert, but I don't think ANY of what you listed is "normal" for your average, run of the mill adhd'er, ok?

PJ

doc said that he was healthy, that he probly has a cold, vein seems bigger because he lost weight.  He said that he was having severe side effects and that is why i should reduce.  yes i have reduced and he has been a bit odd.  today the neighbour came over (bearing in mind my son is 7) and said that he was patting his girls (aged 10 & 12) "down there".  My son has never done anything like that before - crickeys.  After my initial shock and anger at my son - I asked him if he had any questions about girls and we sat and read together "where did i come from" and I tried to open up "that" conversation.  He also put a potato in the washing maching - what the! Well the doc thinks that I have him on too high a dose (2 tabs in the morning) he would like to see him cut back to 1 in the morning.  He thinks that maybe I am medicating the make him more placid for the teacher, than what is in his best interest.  I made the comment that teachers want all the boys to be girls and he seemed to agree with that.  So we will cut back and stuff the teacher - he also said not to force him to do homework and tell the school to get stuffed - interested huh

I agree with Kppy.

Please let us know how it goes.

rae70,

the chest and arm pain worry me.   what's his blood pressure like?  be sure to mention these (i know you will) when you talk with the doc.

hope things go well!!

Been sitting here trying to list all my concerns

- a vein popping out in the back of his leg like a varicose (only age 7),

- chest pain (however it could be mycoplasmal because two other of my children have that virus at the momment - so he will need a blood test - ouch),

- left arm pain, these are on top of the other ones I listed.  Maybe he just has a virus as well as.

Do any of you mums or dads that are adhd and medicated experience varicose veins, and did the meds make them worse?

Hi Rae70, I think you need to mention the rebound to the Dr.  My son's rebound on Aderall was making him lose the few friends he had, along with losing 5 lbs in 6 months.  Even though he was doing sooo much better in the classroom, the Dr. ended up switching us to Strattera.

Let us know how it goes.
