Ritalin, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder It takes a village to destroy a childby Tom DeWeese, American Policy Center
Saturday, November 5, 2005
In the old days, children were warned not to smoke because it would stunt their growth. Apparently the same warning can now be issued on Ritalin. Researchers at the University of Sydney have analyzed 29 separate studies on the subject and have concluded that there is indication that some Ritalin users may experience slow or even stunted growth.
"Parents should expect their children to lose some weight and grow more slowly for a time after starting on stimulant medication, and this should be monitored," says pediatrician Sally Poulton of the University.
Two of the studies reviewed by Poulton and colleagues suggest that children who experience nausea and vomiting as an early side effect of Ritalin may be uniquely vulnerable to slow growth. University of Iowa psychologist John R. Kramer, PhD, who led one of the research teams, said that this small sub group of Ritalin users ended up more than 2 inches shorter than other Ritalin users."
[QUOTE=TillyT]Well, thank goodness. My DS is 7 years old and stands 4 foot, 4-1/2 inches tall. I think he grew three inches since last July, while on meds.

All meds have side effects. Untreated ADHD has worse side effects. Kind of like antibiotics have side effects, but untreated strep throat can lead to heart disease. Here is an interesting site I will post about a group called "Parents Against Ritalin." Indeed, they are a propaganda group tied in with Breggin and Scientology and here is the link discrediting them (unless you are a Breggin fan or a Scientologists, in which case you'll think they have validity). Ok, here goes the link:

psm090438674.2828472222I am beginning to sound like an echo; however, I have posted often on our psychiatrist's thoughts on Metadate CD which she has my grand-daughter on. She takes it twice a day during school days only (m-f), is off it completely on weekends (some weekends are fine and calm, some a little stormier!) and is definitely off all meds during summer vacation. This has worked great for us for the last 2 years.Well, thank goodness. My DS is 7 years old and stands 4 foot, 4-1/2 inches tall. I think he grew three inches since last July, while on meds.

Its not MY theory, Bug. It's the study findings of researchers at the University of Sydney LOL. Its new findings and worth watching to see what comes of it in the future (to people who are interested of course), in an attempt to avoid the situation in future.
I doubt the researchers went to all that trouble and then published their findings all for you and with your somewhat predictably hostile dismissal and rather ridiculous response in mind and suspect they're far to bright to care about such silliness even if they were aware of it.
Have a good day.
Yeah, stunted growth.Attention
