May not be ADHD after all. | ADHD Information
Update - Heidi Ho?
Wow Heidi - glad ur ok. That sounded really scary! Whatever it is, want you taken cared of. Do your research & keep me posted. ADHD or no u r still my adopted dd.
I hope that you don't have ADHD. Since you definitely have the mitral valve prolapse, I am praying that when they treat you for that, the symptoms will go away.
Best wishes!
Went to the emergency room last night for the chest pain I had been having. Last night it got really bad and it was hard to breathe, so I drove myself to the ER. Being as I'm on a high dose of a stimulant med (Concerta) and I'm otherwise too young and healthy to have a heart problem, and the EEG he did looked fine, the doc thinks I might have mitral valve prolapse. Nothing serious but causes sh*tty symptoms when you have them :) Also thinks there may be some connective tissue disorder(s) involved, too. All of which explains every symptom of ADHD I've ever had.
Mindboggling. But, he told me that ADHD is a exclusionary diagnosis anyway -- if they can't find anything else, then it's ADHD. Looks like for me, they might of found something else.
How do these things explain your ADHD symptoms?I'm wondering the same thing. I also wonder how your dr could have prescribed stimulants without the mitral valve prolapse showing up in the tests he did to determine that your heart was healthy enough for you to take them.

Barb, he didn't do any tests. After I had bad side effects on
Adderall, and now Concerta, I'm having testing done through my primary
care physician.

What are the symptoms of mitral valve prolapse condition?
Instability of the autonomic nervous system can cause or influence a
dizzying variety of seemingly unrelated symptoms and conditions,
affecting many different systems of the body. These include:
~ Migraine headaches
~ Dizzy, spacy feeling
~ Difficulty concentrating
~ Balance problems, vertigo
~ Insomnia, sleep disturbances
~ Hyperventilation; shortness of breath
~ Palpitations of the heart; skipped or irregular heart beat
~ Panic attacks, with pounding heart beat
~ Phantom chest pain with no apparent physiological cause
~ Hypersensitive startle reflex
~ Cold sweats
~ Cold hands and feet
~ Numbness or tingling in the fingers or toes
~ Bowel urgency, diarrhea, constipation
~
Sensitivity to drugs, including alcohol, caffeine, and medications
(caffeine prevents the natural absorption of catecholamines, so that
they linger in the body. Caffeine and theobromides in chocolate are
related to medications used to treat asthma, which work by inhibiting
the absorption of catecholamines.) People with mitral valve prolapse
are especially sensitive to all kinds of drugs and medications.

I have every symptom on that list, and many of them are what made me get checked out for ADHD.
HeidiMarie38676.3948148148Wow, that is mind boggling! Hope you're feeling better . How do they determine if it's mitra valve prolapse? He's on a beta blocker. I can't remember the name right now.HEIDI,
get this taken care of and let us know every step, but you get better, you hear me.
Love to you and yours from us all.
Jeff.

Wow. A new treatment for ADHD. Fix my heart, and I'll depart!
I'm on propranolol, a beta blocker. Doesn't seem to do much for my
ADHD, although it does wonders for my sex drive. I wonder where it went.
Hei Hei,
I'm sooo sorry a/b that last post.
I don't know who did it. But they used my name. So I'm apologizing. I
hope you understand, and I'll go beat him up in a minute. This is how I
deal with stress. I laugh it off. Haha. I'm getting a divorce. Haha.
Oh, hell, it's not working now. Oh well, I'm glad you've got a
direction to go in. Take care o' dat ticker. And your cute li'l slicker

Wow! What is the treatment for this? Very interesting.
Heidi,
I can't believe you drove yourself to ER! I'm so glad you weren't having a heart attack and maybe you are on the road to a new you! I sure hope so!
Heidimarie,
I hope all is well with you! Keep your chin up! We will be cheering for you here with or without ADHD!!!
Hi Heidi, what's the connective tissue disorder? I've never heard of it.
Good luck, hope you get some clear answers soon
My son has mitral valve prolapse and adhd. Stress increases his irregular heartbeat. He has been on medication for mitral valve prolapse for 6 months but the adhd is still there. I hope it works out different for you but it could be an additional diagnosis, not a different one. Have you found anything that works for the migraines?
