Q - Tics? | ADHD Information

Share

How long after we either stop or switch meds will the (eye) tics go away?

   Sometimes they don't go away.

My 12-year-old son, who developed facial tics while on Concerta, experiences tics both on and off meds.  (In fact, over the summer while off meds, he had a few bad episodes of tics.)  We were told they are exacerbated by stims, but not caused by them.  Sometimes anxiety fuels tics.  We were also told that tics can diminish after puberty.  If you are concerned about your child's tics, you should consult a pediatric neurologist.

Bogus - how can you outright lie or spread ignorance? Meds don't cause tics and even the least educated here knows that.

Pathetic.

What's pathetic is the people in the ADHD business who are willing to lie to parents without regard to the health of their children purely for profit motives. The fact that these drugs cause tics that are often permanent is well documented and can be found in both the Physician's Desk Reference (see your local library) AND the drug insert that comes with the prescription.

Next thing we know folks will be saying these drugs are not classified by the FDA in the same category as Morphine (highly addictive)!

First of all . . .

Our doctor never lied to us about the side effects of the meds.

So he/she told you that permanent nervous tics were a known side affect? That's an honest doctor. It's important that parents can go into the drug plan knowing about the outcomes.

[/QUOTE] Second of all, why are you engaging this person and calling them basically names.

Oh yes, your gone, you just don't know it yet.

First of all . . .

Our doctor never lied to us about the side effects of the meds.

She pointed out ALL of the possible side effects to include decreased appetite, headaches, stomachaches, trouble getting to sleep, etc.....  THEN she left it up to us if we wanted our son on meds or not.

I am not ashamed to say that we went with taking the meds.

I simply asked a question about a particular side effect.  I did NOT ask for an opinion about doctors who prescribe the meds.

Please do not respond again to any of my posts or questions. I have no desire to hear from you.

Stop trying to undermine me and make me think that I am doing danger to my son and that I am clueless.  Until you have been in my shoes you do NOT know how it is!

I really do not care for your opinions, thoughts, or so called facts!  KEEP THEM TO YOURSELF!

Stimulant medications have long been known to cause tics (involuntary movements) in children. Often they are permanent. If this occurs, you should slowly reduce dose until your child is off of the medication completely. Of course, do so under the direction of your doctor, a pediatrician. It is not advisable to see a psychiatrist for this condition, especially if they originally prescribed the drug, because they may be proned to deny the causal relationship between the drugs and the tics. Removing the meds can significantly reduce the possibility of tics expanding. Good luck to you and your son.

Stimulants have been around a long time.

Most tics go away soon after the meds are stopped.

Ask your doctor and tell them about the tics.

as for the bogus and reality guest posts, that is your opinion based on nothing, just debate, so as a result...
