Bumping Up to cover anti-med post.

not sure how to get back to each of you directly.  I understand about the scare sites and all i am only focusing on good people such as jfla,psm0904,contrary and glen, others that are trying to help.  I worry so much that it could be even worse then adhd!  I knew since Abby was 2 that she was hyper, and struggled with her all these years, she is so bright and has such a great sence of humor, but she doesn't know when to quit, she won't let go, she can't control her self and climbs walls, it eventually leaked into the school and effected her social life and grades as well that is when I knew I had no other choice but to do something.  when you wait so long and finally make the choice to medicate only to find a shmuck for a doc and to see your daughter going off the deep end it is terrifying. If you have other ideas, send them along, she is calmer today, thankfully.  Maybe I am the crazy one!

Sure would be great if we were not tossed all over the world and we could hang out and really chat!  I will post this new as well for you , like I said not sure how to get this out to you all.

thank you

Dee,

Seriously, the best place to go for an accurate diagnosis is a neuropsychologist.  I mentioned it in my post on your other thread.  PSM will back me up on this.  If your daughter is going off the deep end on stimulants, you need to find out what's truly going on before you try different interventions.  Otherwise, things can go south fast.  You can start the search for a neuropsychologist by contacting university or children's hospitals.

ok, I will check into the neuropsychologist at the university levels here in florida.  but in the mean time........

whats this about reality checking in as a guest???

you guys got my back, how cool is that?

It appears that reality changed his username to "guests."  So be on the lookout.

I think a NeuroPsych is the way to go. We got nowhere until we went to one. They do much more intensive testing than other professionals. University hospitals have them, but our NeuroPsych was a private one and he rocked! The other professionals seemed to want to dx. in one hour, but our NeuroPsych was extremely thorough! We made lots of progress after his evaluation

Admin deleted the account of curus and reality.  But, I'm sure they will back under new user names unless Admin banned their IP addresses.

Deanna,

It's actually below.  See the "pm" icon at the bottom of your post?  That's how you send individual posters personal messages.

Tater,

Great news!  Thanks to all who complained to administration!!!

Welcome, Deanna Bump up.dee,
I think checking at the university and children's hospital for a good neuropsychologist to do a thorough evaluation is a good start too. Find out how easy is it to consult with the doctor or nurse. My son's dr. has an ADD consultation nurse who has been enormously helpful, very accessible and works closely with the doctor. (She has two ADHD sons) I also suggest asking about their philosophy in medication with regard to fine tuning it based on obervations of your child's behavior. It turns out my son is very sensitive to minor changes in methylphenidate. The doctor has encouraged us to figure out how much is right for him. At times this would mean shaving the edge off of some pills, breaking them into 1/4s, 1/8s or taking some of the medication out of a capsule that seemed to be too much.Of course you can't do it with all pills, an example being concerta. I mention this fine tuning because our first doctor opposed the idea when I told him that ds had a good response to 1 1/2 pills. He seemed a bit self-righteous, I was new to this whole thing, didn't know anyone else; He prescribed an additional medication. Now as I look back we should have had a doctor that would have worked with us in finding just the right dose for ds. I may have gone into too much detail here, but for us it has been an important issue. We were lucky in finding the doctor we have now. Being new in town it was suggested that we go to a CHADD meeting and hear him speak. It was a nice introduction to to hear about his personal and professional experience with ADD/Adhd. (He is also ADHD)Keep us posted.
Oh, you can send a personal message to members by clicking on the icon above. Abby sounds a lot like my guy when he was young. Good Luck!

Just watch for similar anti-med posts - and be ready at the "report" button.

Congrats one and all! We have won one battle - not the war but hey who's complaining!!

High Five to the pro-help group!!!!!

I think we all need a break from trolls.

But deanna, neuro is the way to go, then take the report and see a psychologist or a psych, or a family dr. they can dispense the medications.
