ADHD??? you mean like retarded?
Anyone ever hear that one?
With me it was a psychosis, or schizo-anything.....cruel world we live in- labelling Everyone. I also hated being called a DINK....a Baby Boomer.....without degrading someone, some people cannot accept themselves!"Look, ma...I'm different!"When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, it was assumed that a person with ADHD was either totally undisciplined or retarded, usually both.they're all just jealous because their ugly and i'm smarter then them. and you guys are all smarter then them too. they can kiss my assThat's right, you guys have gas stations don't you. Do you have petrol or just gas. It's two different things here??[QUOTE=Peita Pan]That's right, you guys have gas stations don't you. Do you have petrol or just gas. Oh, Peita - You want me to say I have gas, don't you
I work with "retarded" people and they are bloody good fun. Anyone with ADHD has a better understanding of people that are "different" and I think we are a blessing to today's society. It's not natural to be so serious about everything all the time and the people without ADHD put too much importance on things that really dont matter. So what if I leave dishes in the sink to go and play in the park with my daughter? So what if my car runs out of petrol, we get a nice walk to the petrol station.
If people think we're retarded, let them. I believe in a perfect world we are the ones who will ultimately get the most out of our lives cos we dont bend to all the rules of adulthood.
There, I said it

According to my parents and others I know ADHD is just a cop out for not taking responsibility for yourselves, so pull your socks up the lot of you
Seriously though, that's what they think. My Dad even said "I dont really belive in all that sh*t" and he's got that many ADHD traits it unreal
Maybe he's worried someone will think his daughter is RETARDED
I love these little smiley things!!!
I have, I think, heard adhd called a learning disability.never heard those - just a "bambi in the headlights" stare sometimes.
But if anyone said to me "that's like retarded" - I'd say "I said A - D - H - D not R - A - P!".
Ok maybe not so funny . I was gonna say republican but I think a couple of you are that so I figured safer to go the R - A - P route!
Ok, you got me. I did want you to say you have gas Tee Hee

Fryed, what's a DINK? I grew up pretty sheltered, thats probably why I don't know. And maybe b/c my mom and dad art't predjudice or racists.
I never heard anyone say anything negative about ADHD. My dad just tells me from time to time that I'm just like my mom. Of course he's in partial denial b/c mom's inatentive and he's HYPERACTIVE. I'm the combo; =chicken/head cut off.
CG 'Grand Funk Railroad' = now just 'Grand Funk' = Life is 'Grand Funk'

DINK isn't necessarily pejorative. It just stands for "Double Income, No Kids."
I'm not ashamed of being ADHD, and no one I know has ever implied that it's akin to being retarded. People who know me think of me as being very intelligent. I have a bad habit now of telling everyone that I am ADD, not really realizing that some people may have a negative connotation of it. I am glad I finally put a name to all of my weirdness, forgetfulness, messiness, head-in-the-cloudsiness.
One of my coworkers, who is also ADD, advised me not to tell anyone. I think he feels ashamed of it. I just feel like I have a way to explain what's wrong with me! I don't think of it as an illness or mental illness-- it's just a condition that makes some things more difficult for me.
taritac38679.5959606481Dink CAN however be used to call someone the equivalent of a weenie, dork, etc. Since it's become double income no kids it's improved the usage for sure LOL!
