Hi Barb:

Thanks for the info. I forgot I posted a message in this forum. I will be checking out those web sites.

Thanks again,

Island Gypsy

My 13 yr old son was just diagnosed with adhd. We are about to try Concerta 36 mil. Looking for answers about medications, behavior problems and how to deal with them appropriately and school issues. We don't have an IEP yet and no plan for him at school to deal with problems. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Another good site to check out besides this one is www.schwablearning.org . They also have a parent message board with good info and a search bar where you can type in a subject matter such as "behavior" and it will bring up a list of posts concerning it. They also have great articles about dealing with the school and what types of interventions / accommodations are helpful.

If you have problems getting the school to comply with your son's needs, and it is possible since he has reached jr. high, you can also check www.wrightslaw.org  for the laws and and ways to approach the school to see that they are enforced.

There is also a forum here for books and websites which are helpful. I'm sure you will find a great deal of useful information there.

WELCOME! You have come to the right place for help and support.

Hey Barb

The www.schwablearning.org site is wonderful.  Thanks for sharing

My son will be 10yrs old next month. Since he started school, I always had to meet with his teachers, because he was not staying on task. I had him evaluated by his teacher and myself, and it did show that he had ADD. I guess I didn't want to except the fact that my oldest son had ADD. His pediatrician and family members just suggested that I should try changing his diet, by lowering his sugar intake. Since that happened he did show a little improvement, but it's obvious know that he really needs some medication. He will be repeating 3rd grade this year, because he never did much work in class. I blame myself and the school teacher for not taking action on making sure he really has ADD. During summer break I took him to the Dr. they started him on Adderall 10mg, he tried that for a month, still I didn't notice any changes in his behavior. On his second visit I mentioned that I still haven't noticed a change, he is now taking Adderal 15mg.  He will be going to the Dr. for his 3rd evaluation and I'm gonna tell him the same thing. There's been No Change, I know that will want to increase his dosage again to 20mg. I just hope this Adderall that they're giving him starts to work soon Mae4u38209.3006828704
