And again, the how many times something like this can happen is so extremely rare. Millions of people take the flu shot - even knowing that there could be the rare case of an unknown allergic reaction - and some people have died from it. Yet, the benefit to the millions of people who don't have a reaction find it to be worthwhile.
Who do you blame when a psycho goes and kills someone and he isn't on any medication.
People, this is what I am talking about...Monitor yourself or your loved ones and ask questions. This stuff shouldn't happen.
Oh, and let me sue Mcdonalds too because the coffee was hot....give me a break.
Balanced will you please think about what you are saying. Are you saying all medicatiion should be banned because some people died taking that med? Do you not realize that every medication there is would be banned then?
Gosh, I wish you would really think about this. I could cry for you, you are so ill informed and in fact causing so much more harm when you come here posting like this. I actually have tears in my eyes because I know you think you are doing what is right and it has to be so discouraging from your point of view when we are all bashing what you say but you are just so ill-informed.
You are doing far more harm than good. Please, please, please think about what you are doing. Why can't you be happy Valzap is doing so much better. Why can't you be happy there isn't a chance his road rage could turn into a horrible incident? I know I am thrilled for Valap.
Not that I know of.
I just brought up the name because Valzap posted that "nothing terrible can happen to you in a short time".
Mr Schell only took 2 Paxil.
Drug reactions can be very swift and very deadly.
How many pills of empower can you take in canada?
Your welcome Valzap and forgive me for goofing up your name on that post and for taking a leap by insinuating you may let your road rage get out of control.
I was the victum of a road rager and it scared me to death. Long story short: We both traveled the same route to work and I saw him often cussing other drivers. The next thing I knew he was cussing at me and I had no clue what I did. He followed me home several times (although I made a point of not going home but rather to a public place) and one time on the interstate he saw me and I saw him. I quickly exited and he came screeching behind me and actually was driving so fast he ran over a medium...jumped out of his car and was yelling hands waving in the air. I called the cops.
With that said, I can get pretty angry to on the road too. But mine is limited to calling them every name in the book in the privacy of my car. No jestures 99% of the time. Sorry...getting off topic.
Unlike Bogus, I do think Balanced thinks she is doing the right thing. It just breaks my heart she doesn't "get it".
Thanks Auntie - It is true about the road rage. I commute 60 miles each way to work in the NY metropolitan area and I can tell you road rage is common place here. But it had gotten to the point that from the moment I got into the car I would start to get this tension in my body and the anger would begin flowing - even though nobody was around me. I am an offensive driver - in every sense of the word - and I started to take even more chances. 80 mph wasn't fast enough for me. I would tailgate at that high speed. I was scaring myself but I couldn't calm down or stop.
I still think everyone is an idiot on the road but I am not uptight anymore. I get to work and I am calm. I am truly afraid of what may have happened to me or others on the road because of my anger. Now i can just drive along and not "retaliate" like I would. It's a nice feeling.
Hi All,
It's been a little over two weeks since I was last on the boards here. Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth - I had to go on a business trip and I needed to get caught up at work. Anyhoo...Here is my progress.
It has been almost 4 weeks since I started the Effexor and Concerta combination. In the beginning, you'll remember I was extremely tired and didn't feel like anything was happening.
After being on the boards I was very paranoid about upping the dosage of the effexor as my dr recommended. Even though I was getting some positive reports from some people, the negative reports were enough to scare me into not increasing the dosage as prescribed.
After talking to some "real" people (by this, I simply mean people who I deal with on a regular basis, in person). I found out a lot of people I know are on Effexor as well. After speaking with them and hearing of their results - all POSITIVE - I decided to stop fighting the help I so desperately wanted and went ahead and did what the dr. told me to.
My results: much calmer, not uptight, no chest pains any more, no road rage, no compulsive eating, LOST 8 POUNDS, BLOOD PRESSURE DROPPED. I am not as focused yet as I would like, but just saw dr. again today and we are going to try to increase dosage of concerta to see if that helps. If not, we agreed to go back down to current dose as I am still better than I was a month ago.
I am an adult and so I can't speak for parents who need to medicate their children but here is my advice:
SPEAK TO YOU DOCTORS. ASK QUESTIONS OF THEM. ASK QUESTIONS TO PEOPLE YOU KNOW. You will see that there are people you deal with who could be in similar situations as you and can help you out.
BE WARY OF THE "DRUGS ARE BAD" POSTERS. Don't let them talk you out of something for fear of what might happen. The key here is about MONITORING what you are doing. If you watch out for the way any medication makes you behave and if you see something negative, then immediately talk to your dr and stop the medicine.
Nothing horrible is going to happen if you try things out for a short term. If you ignore the negative "symptoms" for years, well then yes, something could happen. If you're not regularly checked by your dr, again, something negative could happen.
This is a trial and error basis - so don't believe those really negative responses from people who can't give you first hand experience. Someone else posted here that research on the internet - especially the boards is very scary. And I would agree. You need to physically talk to people as part of your research.
Drugs are not the answer for everything, but if you've tried everything else and your debate is now about the medication - give it a try. PLEASE, PLEASE ignore the bad big brother, corp. giant talks.
If I didn't start to take the meds I was afraid of, I would either have been in the hospital for killing someone on the road in my car, or on my way to a heart attack because my BP was too high. so either way, I needed some form of medication.
Sorry this is so long. I must be going now. Have a great Thanksgiving for you US-ers.
And to think you almost let this slip by you.
Paxil had the same great effect on me. I agree. Talk in depth to your doctors and have a list of questions with you, if you are apprehensive. It will be a lot more informative than finding stuff on the internet.
Dear Valzap,
You wrote... "Nothing horrible is going to happen if you try things out for a short term. "
Please Google search the name Donald Schell.
Let me know what you find out.
Look the name up of internet troll and tell me what you find.Anyone looking up things right now should check out http://www.quackwatch.org/11Ind/breggin.html. See the militantly fervent people who wish to make you seem lazy, unmotivated and bent on killing kids.
Ah, the trolls are out - can't you smell it?
bugz,
Are you afraid to simply look up a guy's name on an Internet search?
Are you afraid of what you might find ?
C'mon Glen... just look the guy's name up and tell us what you read about him.
(His son in law is a millionaire now.)
I would rather look up l ron hubbard and see who benefitted from his murder.bugz,
Are you afraid of the truth ?
Would you like me to quote this for you.You are so deadset against psychology and their obvious connections to pharmaceuticals balanced - yet this guys' whole case was based on psychologists who had never met the guy but surmised by the "evidence" that he must have been made suicidal/homicidal by meds. Hmmm... works your way it's ok huh?
Can't have it both ways. These guys must have been covering for something bigger. Maybe the guy found out a secret of big pharma so they put a contract out on him.
Wow big conspiracy.
I looked the guys name up. He was on Paxil. Do they prescribe this for ADHD?So mentally deficient Mr. Schell - who was self-medicating at more than double the dose of a med he was given goes nuts. The jury is not allowed to see the scientific facts by a biased and obviously unbalanced judge. Wow - big surprise.
This guy was overdosing himself on these meds. He kept thoughts of suicide and death from his physicians (but surprisingly told family who - wow didn't tell anyone until after psycho kills everyone). He disregards all safeties in place and still the family gets paid.
Civil cases typically go by tear jerking stories over physical evidence.
AND AGAIN THIS IS ABOUT DEPRESSION AND NOT ADHD YOU SIMPLETON.
Quit fuzzing the subject with scientology stories.
Schell was an idiot - his family money-grubbing. They supposedly knew what he planned and did nothing.
Keep blaming what you feel you need to - the evidence speaks for itself.
bugz,
This belongs on the debate board. Thousands of people take Effexor and SSRIs and find them a lifesaver. If you wish to debate this, take it for the board it's for. I"ve reported a few people and they don't seem to be here anymore and any scare tactic posts will be reported by nickname. The board has been quite better lately.Auntie,
If you read a daily newspaper with more than 100,000 circulation, you will come across about 2 stories every week of rather bizarre and or violent behavior.
If you follow those stories, you'll soon find out that ALMOST ALL of them involved SSRI or SNRI antidepressants.
There are about 120 million people taking these antidepressants. About 1% of them will be involved in bizarre and violent behavior. As Glen would say... it's a low... very low statistic.
But it's still over 1,200,000 people doing crazy things that they would not be doing if they weren't on the drugs.
About a year ago I went through a box of newspaper stories involving these drugs. Of the first 37 stories, there were 29 suicides and 54 MURDERS !!!
SSRI and SNRI drugs can kill you... even if you're not taking them !!!
I bet you won't
