Ok guys, my psychologist has recommended that I try some relaxation and meditation stuff to try and quite my mind when it starts to go into overdrive, which is usually before bedtime.
So with this thought in mind I've decided to make myself a meditation room in my new house. Any thought or ideas on how to decorate?? I know different colours have different effect on mood Etc. Do any of you have any knowlegde in this area??
No knowledge, but always have an opinion - Natural rock walls with a small water fountain or waterfall like thingy and lots of plants & greenery. Sounds good to me. I am into nature though. Think back - what is it that makes you relax? It's probably different for everyone. When you get it finished, may I come visit? Sounds like a lovely idea. Maybe I need one. I can lay rockAlrighty then, got all that in my Folder too. Havn't heard of Kitaro, will have to ask at the music shop. I do listen to a lot of classical music which helps. The hard core classical doesn't it gets my all fired up
Rayray, what does a waterscape contractor actually do? Is only outdoor work or indoor too??
I would love to be an interior decorator, have heaps of good ideas, just none of them ever get finished.
I'l have to take a picture of the mediaton room when I finish it and post it so you can all see your ideas come to life.
If you come up with anymore ideas, keep them coming.
Oh and GlenW, I heard that about the pink in locker rooms too
Kitaro is a synthesizer player from Japan. Tenku is his biggest seller in North America (last time I saw) and it's very relaxing.
The locker room by the way was the subject of a lawsuit by a team that played there. They said it was a reference to gayness and that they were constantly being razzed and intimidated. Sounds kind of a girlie reaction but what the hay do I know?
Waterscape. That's a good word. Think I'll use that one too. After I fill up my auto with petrol, I will meet you at the waterscape.
Don't forget the SOUNDscape. Kitaro is my fave. Try his album "Tenku" - put my ex's kids to sleep from birth into their teens and me too.
Waterfall is great - I see the self-pumping minifalls at walmart for cheap. Looks pretty too.
Pink is supposedly physiologically relaxing. They have used it in prison cells and it apparently works! One football coach even put pink in the visitor's changing room and after that won every game!
A good mat is essential too - they make yoga mats that are very comfortable yet hold up to use.
Kitaro is good but you should also look up Jean Michele Jarre, vangelis, tangerine dream, classical from bach and brahms is good too.
it is my specialty
i am a custom pool & waterscape contractor
Hi CG. That's the type of thing I was thinking. Im a nature lover too. Don't know how I would do a rock wall though, might be a job for my husband
I've picked the colour Chinese Jade for a feature wall, it's a lovely aquamarine shade of green and my other half has got me three prints with The Tree Of Knowledge sayings on them. They've been done on bees wax paper. Soooo cool, but I cant have them til Christmas.
Thanks for the ideas, I've printed them out for my IDEAS FOLDER
Chinese Jade and the Tree of Knowledge. Yeah, that sounds awesome! You an artist? Maybe you could paint nature scenes on the walls.
debuusy is great. love ravel too. there is much more he did than 'bolero', which many speculate was a major change in his style due to some inner ear or other neurological condition.
robert fripp makes awesome soundscape music. he and his friend brian eno are the origin of the word. for this music, go to DGM records website.
other meditative music are ppl. like kitaro, r. carlos nakai. npr has a radio program 'hearts of space' that plays hours of this music.
much of it is filed under 'new age' in the stores, or at online places like cdnow, or cduniverse.
merry meditating!
For music , I prefer Enya,Enigma,Bach,Mozart, and Vivaldi to relax to, but still listen to Disturbed,Guns n' Roses, and Green Day. Never was a fan of DeBussy. Some people are just sore losers. I'd have laughed at them personally
Speaking of relaxing music, have you heard the Medicine Women c.d's. Best relaxation music I've got. I used it to help my daughter sleep as she only slept three hours a night until about six months ago. We're up to five hours now Yippee
I like a goodPINK is a VERY calming color. Maybe I need to color my monitor pink. Maybe I should go take an Ambien. Maybe I should read the other suggestions.

Thought we were going for relaxation
A room the color of Pepto-Bismo would make me nauseous
Try having a lamp which has multiple sockete and different coloured bulbs in each, you can set your own mood with colour.

BOLERO, was an experiment he was embarassed about!!! The one thing I do like was he was honest about it! It was an experiment in the capacity of chreshendo, starting off in a soft , placid tone , and advancing it to a driving force of sound!! But , I will admit, thats the way intimate relations do happen
.
P.S. heard brian eno passed around and loved H.O.S but don't receive it anymore om nprt/pbs

Color Psychology and Marketing
Business, Sales and the World Wide Web Are In Color
Color is a meaningful constant for sighted people and it's a powerful psychological tool. By using color psychology, you can send a positive or negative message, encourage sales, calm a crowd, or make an athlete pump iron harder.
Employ the latest color psychology in all facets of marketing and particularly in logo design, web site design, the cover of a book, or the package of a product.
The field of industrial psychology has a sub-field that studies only the psychology of color. It is no accident that Campbell's soup has used the same four colors on their labels for years and years. When I mentioned that product, I'll bet an image of that label popped into your head.
Below is a quick overview of the meaning of basic colors in the Western Hemisphere. This information will help you decided what colors to use in your marketing projects. The psychology of color changes with lighter or darker shades of the colors below are often associated with much different meanings. And remember for the World Wide Web, and different cultures have differing views on the meaning of color.
If you are unsure of the psychology of color, contact Precision Intermedia at 707-725-0804 or email info@precisionintermedia.com
Black
Black is the color of authority and power. Black clothes make people appear thinner. It's a somber color sometimes associated with evil (the cowboy in the black hat was almost always the "bad guy"). In the western hemisphere black is associated with grieving. Black is a serious color that evokes strong emotions; it is easy to overwhelm people with too much black.
White
For most of the world this is the color associated with purity (wedding dresses); cleanliness (doctors in white coats) and the safety of bright light (things go bump in the night ... not the bright sunshine!). It is also used to project the absence of color, or neutrality. In some eastern parts of the world, white is associated with mourning.
Gray
Gray is most associated with the practical, timeless, middle-of-the-road, solid things in life. Too much gray leads to feeling mostly nothing; but a bit of gray will add that rock solid feeling to your product. Some shades of gray are associated with old age, death, taxes, depression or a lost sense of direction.
Red
Red is the color of energy. It's associated with movement and excitement. People surrounded by red find their heart beating a little faster and often report feeling a bit out of breath. It's absolute the wrong color for a baby's room but perfect to get people excited. Wearing red clothes will make you appear a bit heavier and certainly more noticeable. (Some studies show red cars get more tickets but that maybe because the red car owners drive faster or the ticket giver notices the movement of the red car more prominently). Red is not a good color to over use but using a spot of red in just the right place is smart in some cases (one red accent in a otherwise neutral room draws the eye; a red tie with a navy blue suit and white shirts adds just the right amount of energy to draw the eye (no wonder it's the "uniform of the day" at the seats of government). Red is the symbol of life (red blooded life!) and, for this reason, it's the color worn by brides in China. Red is used at holidays that are about love and giving (red roses, Valentines hearts, Christmas, etc.) but the true color of love is pink. Pink is the most calming of all colors -- often our most dangerous criminals are housed in pink cells as studies show that color drains the energy and calms aggression.
Blue
Ask people their favorite color and a clear majority will say blue. Much of the world is blue (skies, seas). Seeing the color blue actually causes the body to produce chemicals that are calming; but that isn't true of all shades of blue. Some shades (or too much blue) can send a cold and uncaring message. Many bedrooms are blue because it's calm, restful color. Over the ages blue has become associated with steadfastness, dependability, and loyalty (note how many uniforms are blue). People tend to be more productive in a blue room because they are calm and focused on the task at hand. Some studies are showing that weight lifters can lift more weight in a blue gym - in fact, nearly all sports are enhanced in blue surroundings.
Green
The color of growth, nature, and money. A calming color also that's very pleasing to the senses. Dark forest green is associated with terms like conservative, masculine and wealth. Hospitals use light green rooms because they too are found to be calming to patients. It is also the color associated with envy, good luck, generosity and fertility. It is the traditional color of peace.
Yellow
Cheerful yellow the color of the sun, associated with laughter, happiness and good times. Yellow is associated with optimism but be careful with yellow it is also the color of lames and studies show babies cry more in yellow rooms and tempers flare more around that color too. It has the power to speed up our metabolism and bring out some creative thoughts (legal tablets are yellow for good reason!). Yellow can be quickly overpowering if over-used, but used sparingly in the just the right place it can be an effective tool in marketing to greater sales. Some shades of yellow are associated with cowardice; but the more golden shades with the promise of better times.
Orange
The most flamboyant color on the planet! It's the color tied most this fun times, happy and energetic days, warmth and organic products. It is also associated with ambition. There is nothing even remotely calm associated with this color. Orange is associated with a new dawn in attitude.
Purple
What color were the robes of kings and queens? Yes, they were purple, our most royal color that is associated with wealth, prosperity, rich sophistication. However, when overused in a common setting it is associated with putting on airs and being artificial/ Use purple most carefully to lend an air of mystery, wisdom, and respect. Young adolescent girls are most likely to select nearly all shades of purple as their favorite color.
Brown
This color is most associated with reliability, stability, and friendship. More are more likely to select this as their favorite color. It's the color of the earth itself "terra firma" and what could represent stability better. It too is associated with things being natural or organic. Caution however, for in India it is the color of mourning.

Basics on How to Use Color Together
Color psychology is complicated field of study and goes deep into the meaning of combining colors for a particular desired effect. We will broad brush some basics that may well enough for you to make good color choices for a web site with marketing in mind.
Monochromatic Color Scheme
This is the use of a single color in varying shades. This can be a clean and interesting look on a web site. It's soothing and pleasing to the eye especially in the blue or green hues.
Complimentary Color Scheme
This is using high contrast of color by selecting colors directly opposite from one another on the color wheel (such as pink and lime green). This puts a warm color with a cool color and is pleasing to the eye.
Triple Color Scheme
This scheme uses three colors equally spaced from each other around a color wheel. It's popular with web designers and allows for a harmonious color scheme.
You ARE that first flash of color seen on your web site it's important to remember that color is the first thing registered by a person who goes to your web site. It that is pleasing, they will read on -- if it's displeasing you may lose them in a nano second. So first select your background color and then select two other colors for your web site. Remember to keep in mind the meaning and harmony of colors.

Ewe, now I'm sick. And it's not even morning yet...
Okay CreativeC, I want a shade of green for a meditation room.
A good colour/s for a feature wall in my bedroom.
A warm colour for my loungeroom which is L-shaped, oh and the fromt door open to a plain white wall so need ideas for that too. Its a little in your face to walk in the door to be meet by a wall if you know what I mean.
And I want a feature wal for my daughter's room who is almost four and a bad sleep and quite hyped most of her waking hours
That will do for now. By the way, I'd love to do interior design, how to you get into it??

A wonderful shade of chocolate brown is very soothing team this up with a classic robins egg blue or a soft peach or warmer colors.
A warm colour for my loungeroom which is L-shaped, oh and the fromt door open to a plain white wall so need ideas for that too.
What is your other colors ...? furniture etc..this will play a large part in your choices
Its a little in your face to walk in the door to be meet by a wall if you know what I mean.
You mean not a too strong of color? Use muted shades...this is why I think you will find Martha's line as one of the best...her secret is that all shades are muted or grayed down...this is a soft rich way of achieving color...this is also true in marketing ....Advertising agencys use strong pure colors to market to the poor ..like strong orange or red...but Advertisers would use a soft green and brown to reach a wealthier class....achieve a rich look by staying away from the strong "pure" colors...also choose complimentary colors for your home so that the map of the home will flow together...test this by placing a color chip of the paint you want to use in each room on a board layed out like you home..this will tell you if your choices will compliment each other...
And I want a feature wal for my daughter's room who is almost four and a bad sleep and quite hyped most of her waking hours
Nothing with red or red undertones..same question what are some of her other decorative colors
That will do for now. By the way, I'd love to do interior design, how to you get into it??
Dad was an architect....I am a million multi tasker...can't work well with others...draw very well....can visualize a room in my head...if you show me a color swatch I can see the room in that color...I know the computer and I know how to use CAD....and I went to many years of overwhelming school...that is about it.
Well I think you're very clever!!
Basically we like timber furniture in our bedroom and loungeroom. But everything we have is getting on my nerves as we've had the same stuff for years. This in mind I was going to buy new furniture to suite the colours we'd chosen for the house, know what I mean?
The only decor Amelia has in room other than a shop's worth of toys is a cast iron Black double bed so any soothing, calming colour would suit her.
Thanks so much for al the info. I don't want to pick the wrong colours and make it look trashy cos if I manage to get it done it wont get done again for years
I do I have a degree in Interior Design...and color is soooooooooo much fun...I can give you tons of help...let me know what you want to do exactly.
You guts crack me up, and I'm loving all these ideas
Enya is one of my favourites. Greenday was mentioned which got me thinking about their song 'Boulovard of broken dreams' (That's spelt wrong) anyway it got me thinking that that song pretty much sums up how I feel alot of the time. Go and have a listen to the words. It might just be me
Green is a definate colour for one wall in my room. Knowing my luck I'll get it finished then fall pregnant and have to give it up
Oh, and Master Mind I'm going to do a course in meditation in the new year which I'm really looking forward to. For some reason when I try to meditate really deeply all I ever see is elephants walking through water up to their shoulders??? This is open for any analysis. GlenW want to take a crack at it
No, I mean give up the room for the baby
That made me laugh.
My husband reckon's I owe him a kick arse shed for him to be a cave man in now
Not just in the Spring. We even do it with the lights on
Oh.
No, I mean give up the room for the baby That made me laugh.
My husband reckon's I owe him a kick arse shed for him to be a cave man in now

And the warriors can 'give it up' as much as they want if it's outside. It's when my warrior thinks he's coming back INSIDE that will be the issue
Hey, I was a warrior, too.Well it was a big joke in my family as I wanted to BE soooo many things. Herw's what my parents came up with when I was about 7yrs old. I wanted to be a firefighting nun that helped animals and children during the day and an author/playwrite hippie in the evening.
Still cant decided what I want to BE
To be honest I find having to go to work everyday takes up too much of my time. I would like to be rich enough to do whatever I wanted with my days, you know like work on my meditation room, hike through the mountains, write novels, learn to belly dance etc.
I do belive there is more to life than what your career is. It just gets in the way of acheiving the things you really find important and interesting. Know what I mean??
Night Night D. Sweet dreams. Its only 9.30pm here in the land of Oz.
Thanks for the chat

I forgot what I was going to write next
got distracted and cant get it back.
