Help.....Newly Diagnosed!!!!! | ADHD Information

Share

I was recently diagnosed as having ADD....I decided to have myself tested because my 8 yo son has ADHD and his therapist mentiond that it was hereditary. I'm happy to have found out that I have it but I'm in a bit of a dilemna as I've tried the drugs and they don't seem to agree with my system. (palpitations, vomiting, etc.) I'm at the point now on whether I should pursue finding another drug or since I've lived with ADD for 48 yrs....why should I need to take any drugs now.

Has anyone ever gone though the same problem? My husband thinks that I should do something as I'm always butting heads with our son......Any advice????? Thx.

It can take months or even years to find the right med. or combination of meds. at the right dosage.  I would keep trying unless you think your functioning is okay without meds.

I think maybe you were on too high of doses or your body just doesn't agree. Its best to start at a lower dose and work your way until you see if its going to work. Remember as with all medications you have to weigh the benefits against the side effects. If the benefits don't out weigh the sides then try something else. Like you said, you have made it this far.....

If medication is disagreeing with you try the Alternatives Board on this forum.  Lots of good info and lots of successes and lots of trial and error.

You could try the omega -3s.  That is pretty simple to do and many have had success with it.  It would help you manage your mood.   I'm with you on trying meds if you have managed OK so far and have had only problems with them.
