New Usser with ADHD w/ Questions | ADHD Information

hm....well it doesnt surprise me that after 3 weeks your medication is no longer working as it should.  It looks like your body has a tendency to become tolerant to a new dose of medication rather quickly.

It looks to me that you're doing fine on your current med. but you definately need to up the dose.  Be sure to take your meds exactly the same time every day because I realized that even being an hour late can really throw you off.  Also, I think that medication is supposed to work better over time so you should stick to it if your first week results were good esp. since you don't seem to experience any huge side effects.  Just make sure you dont climb the dose ladder too quick or may find yourself maxed out and on another med relatively soon.

Additional Info:  On the other hand, you can try other meds to see if others will last longer.  Stimulant meds like Adderall does in fact seem more effective on those without hyperactivity.  You can try other long lasting medications such as Concerta or Strattera.  I've tried both and they do seem to work rather smoothly enough except the Strattera made me a little too drained and drowsy.  I have no hyperactivity so that may explain it.  Only switch meds if you're sure the current med is completely not working esp. if you do not want a delay in symptom control as your doc will need to wean you off from your current medication.  Jumping on the merry-go-round of meds is not a happy thing and can be quite stressful if you depend on meds to do well in work or on other things.
Ok saw the Dr....

He upped the dose....will let you know how its working!

Thanks again for all your help!
STOP THE PRESSES.

Seriously, the best place to go for an accurate diagnosis is a neuropsychologist.    You can start the search for a neuropsychologist by contacting university or  hospitals.

I think this may apply to you as well adhdchick

thanks small mom for posting this. I did a little trimming, but I think it still applies.
You go girl,

 WELCOME TO THE FORUM.
Sit and enjoy your stay.

Can I suggest?

Use a smaller font, your color is ok, but if it is too big, people won't answer you as they have to go WAY down to read it.

Also, break up your paragraphs. use about 5 sentences per and indent one line.

 Otherwise, looking good

Bugz - I'm imagining you with one of those little visors on your head and printer's ink on ya... gonna be the editor?! LOL!!

You have a point - but run-on paragraphs aren't important at least to me.

Now too small - I'd much prefer a bit big with some scrolling.  When people set the font so tiny my eyes go all double.  Not good for me no sir.

Now yell "STOP THE PRESSES" for me huh? ROFL!!!!!

Hi,

WOW! I will say that finding out I had ADHD has helped me understand a lot about myself as well as put some portions of my life into perspective. I work for a school district and started noticing some of the behaviors of our ADHD students in myself. This pushed me to go and get test and low and behold, I had Adult ADHD and most likely had it my entire life.

Anyway, my Dr. started me on the Adderall XR step program where I started on 10mg, once a day and increase by 5 mg per week until I got to 25mg which I have been on for the last 3 weeks. With this being said I am not totally feeling the positive effects I did in the begining when I first started taking the meds. Believe me I am a totally different person then I was before the med but I can totally tell when it is wearing off and the "coming down" so to speak is a very hard time of the evening for me.  I take the 25mg at around 6:30am and I can feel wearing off around 2pm by the time I get home in the evening I am bouncing off the walls. Actually as I am sitting here writting this I can already tell that I am very very hyper as I am rambling. I don't have trouble sleeping, getting up is a another story and I have found myself to become somewhat addicted to coffee in order to get me started. I am looking for any sort of advice or feedback as to what to say to my Dr when I see him on Monday 11/28. My levels of focus during the day are not what they use to be either. Do I need to try a new drug or up the dosage? What about a booster half way through the day? I am a 22 year old female smoker if that helps at all. I am sure there are many out there that have experienced what I am currently going through. I can feel that my hyperactivity is started to take a toll on my relationships as well as my continuing educational goals. My once need for total organization is started to depreciate and I just feel like the med is no longer working. Ok enough rambling.....Looking forward to hearing a response and BTW this site is great! I have been searching for a place to discuss what I am going through.

Thanks again

Well what you have said here is a good start!

Adderall is dexedrine - and typically helps the inattentive ADHDers most.  That's the ones of us who are non-hyper.

Perhaps your MD will suggest trying one of the Ritalin varieties.  It seems to help with hyperactivity and is low on side effects (pretty much whatever you've felt with adderall).  Another type is stratterra - which many find drags them down - as in the energy level drops a lot.  Maybe that will help.

Do let your MD know all you are feeling.  Make a list if you need to.

And good luck!

Hey Glen - I am just looking for support like the rest of us and not very successful and finding it. Maybe if I be a bit more direct that would help.

I am new to all of this and have a teenager..maybe 2.. that are on the ride as well. It is fully life changing and I have not found anyone that really responds but I continue to try.

I posted a question about a week ago related to my teen daughter really reaching for some feedback and did not get it. So, there you go. This is all new not just for me but how I am responsibile for my teens as well.

I will keep reading and trying. Again, you are the first to reach out so thanks. It would be good for me to continue to try and find the support you all have found with each other.

Hey, I find this whole site to be very ADD and ADHD driven. Do not get to caught up in it. I started reading at first but found many of the converstations driven by the ADHD and ADD symptoms. I started at 10 mg about 2 months ago and went to 20. I now find I do not want to take it in the morning because it really makes me focus a lot but with side effects. I have to take advil also to help the headaches at times. Good Luck and talk to your doctor!!!

Well julia it IS an ADHD support forum! I'm not sure how to take what you said - I'll let you clear that up rather than jump to anything.

You should find if you take the meds on a regular cycle that they will not have side effects for long.  Maybe give it a week of every morning.  What side effects are you feeling anyway?

Welcome julia.  We're actually a pretty good group - and there are many here with and without ADHD.

Please do.

 Thanks for letting us know.

we adhd'ers worry incessently over things.
