Make bad choices whether drinking or not.  Feel bad anyway.  Don't drink any less.

Me? I haven't touched any in about 2 years.  Before that I had 2 wine coolers on my B-day and it made me very ill.  I have a very touchy stomach (thanks mom) and it saved me the fate of my dad and his brothers.

Alcohol was the whole reason I discovered ADHD and it's possible fate.  My last paternal uncle died a little over a year ago - alone, blind from cataracts and dying of liver failure.  Drank so much it took my dad and his surviving sisters a week to remove the empties from his home.  He had been found alone, dead in front of a blaring TV - and he'd been drunk to nearly poisoned according to the autopsy.  That made me look at my dad's side of the family and the history of abuse of alcohol.

That's when I began to connect the dots.  My family uses alcohol to self-medicate (albeit poorly) ADHD.  It all made so much sense!

My saving grace was my inability to break down alcoholic beverages properly.  What I'd always thought of as a hangover turned out to be a bleeding ulcer and a bad reaction.  So I never seriously imbibed after I left my twenties.

Also - my ex (who is bipolar) is a severe alcoholic.  She claims to have quit - though I believe it to be a ploy to get me back.  I watched her binge during bad BP periods and it ruined my life over 13 years of it.  She could spend a thousand of my dollars in a week entertaining her friends and drinking herself into oblivion.  I watched and learned.  Slowly of course - after all I AM ADHD.

So no - I don't drink or ever desire to do so again.  I won't go to the office Xmas party next week because they always end up an orgy of alcohol abuse and people behaving less mature than the average 7 year-old.

I honestly hate to be frothing at the mouth over anything in life - but face it most people cannot use alcohol wisely.  It saddens me and I can't stand aside and watch people kill themselves and still feel good about myself.  It just is so sad.

a six pack every 3 weeks.. is that too much ? sometimes less.

and i holiday from my scripts when I do.
Never. Ever.
I am stupid enough without it.
It is also addictive as heroin or crack, kills thousands every year, and has killed people who were important to me.
I was also nearly killed by a drunk driver.
I drink at home. Not out.  Well, I'm like a little of all the above. I was an alcoholoic. I still am. Just recovering. I like a good beer once in a while, maybe once or twice a month. I like a very good whiskey, up, the other once a month. When I was in CenAm, I was drinking once or twice a week, but mostly guaro or vodka. Stumbling drunk, maybe once a year. If that.

Problem is, my meds counteract the effects of alcohol, so it's more expensive to get a buzz. Besides, I prefer life as is. It's fun enough. No hangovers in 20+ years.

I don't like drunk drivers, either. They kill.

Ray ray -  There is a type of drinker called a binge drinker.  The binge drinker may drink for 18 hours or several days.  That may be what you are doing.  Be careful.  It can become serious even it's only once every twe weeks or a month.    It can do as much damage to your life as the drinker who drinks every day.   Be on the alert for drinking longer lengths of time and what you do when you're drinking.   Addiction can creep up on you without your being aware.   Hope the best for you.

For some reason I get the urge for a drink when I'm in the writing mood so if I get hyperfocused on my writing I tend to drink more than I probably should. Other than that I dont feel the need to drink, not even on nights out with friends.

I must use the alcohol to lossen up when writing or something

I fell that way about laughter.

Punch drunk.

[QUOTE=HeidiMarie]I generally have 2 beers a day.  Sometimes more, rarely less.  Sometimes with breakfast, sometimes only after noon.  I'd like to drink liqueour again but I have a 2 year old.

I don't go out and party, by the way, nor drive after I've been drinking.  Alcohol, sadly, works better for me than meds.

BEWARE!!  HM!!  Sometimes it will backfire.

Be Care Full, CG

Life's pains can't drown there.

Keep your chin up, and keep smiling.

It's a pretty smile!

(I met CG for dinner in Dallas once)

Oops, I hope it wasn't me that started you on that binge...

(we laughed for what seemed like hours)

Your friend, David'0

Merry Christmas

I drink pretty much 4 days a week. Mostly socially (its more
accepted here in UK) but sometimes on my own(not accepted).
A half pint or a glass of wine is the only thing that calms me
down. Obviously I know that this is not good - the after effects
can cause more anxiety the nect day..... - but hey you get that
when you withdraw from meds so - what's worse -- chemical
drugs that are prescribed by a doctor or a nice tasting beverage
that you can include as part of a social occasion?

Who prescribes the latter?
Think I'm ready for sobriety for a bit.  ouch used to be an alcoholic, don't more than twice a year these days.Out of interest, how does alcohol work betteter than meds? Do you mean as a way to relax?not onnna relar bisis. btu srta duink toniget. el finx maks a goood gold magriga or 2 or 3  or 28. wos coutng?  whos payin?

you know, I used to enjoy a glass or two of white wine at the end of a particularly stressful day. But now, I have actually started to drink a glass, and end up pouring it out after a few sips... just don't want it..

that is kinda wierd isnt it?

No wunder Jesus turned the water into wine.
Peita, before I knew I had ADHD I was self-medicating with alcohol.  I don't like to get drunk, because then it loses its effect.  When I'm 'buzzed' the spinning in my head slows down, and I can actually think, and listen, and what not.  My husband and I have our best conversations after I've had a few.  If I've had too many, though, the night is shot to hell :)

When I'm on meds, I always have so many bad side effects that almost completely diminish the good ones.  When I'm buzzing on alcohol, I don't have bad side effects, ever, unless I get drunk.

Amen

Well in that case Heidi I'd go with a drink too Cant be any worse than meds anyway I hand out medication on a daily babsis and the side effects and long term effects of some meds is really quite scary when you know about them!!

I know I'm scared.  LOL [QUOTE=Davidornado]

Right on, Brother.
Don't drink and drive.
I won't say don't drink.
Just don't drive when you do.
You and no one else deserves death so you can drink and drive too.
Think, I'll go for a beer now.

I don't generally drink at all,but I had a few the other night at a birthday celebration. It just made me stupid and sick. I choose abstinence from now on.
