1st visit to the psych. | ADHD Information

It's the being myself that I'm afraid of

My very first visit to the shrink is this Friday coming and I'm starting to stress about it. What if even though I've already been diagnosed without a doubt ADHD what if she disagrees? What if she decides she doesnt think there's anything wrong and that she thinks I'm just a hypocondiract (Cant spell it)

Any suggestions on what I should tel her or do I just hand over the report from the psychologist and see what happens?

I'll have worked myself up into a right state by the time the appointment comes

Calm down...Take some deep breaths! Be yourself! It will be Ok.

I'm almost in the same boat you are. My first visit was day before yesterday.

Two psychologists talked to me for about 30-40 minutes, then gave me a 344 question personality exam. They are bringing me back for a battery of tests next month. They said it will take 4 hours and include an intelligence test.

They haven't told me anything about what they think about me. They kind of seemed first incredulous, then credulous throughout my discussion of why I think I have ADD. They were especially skeptical when I said that I had a high GPA in high school. They asked the most probing questions when I mentioned bouts of depression, but seemed satisfied when I talked about why I'm not depressed any more.

I'm not sure what any of this means-- just telling you about my recent experiences.

Don't obsess!! That's an ADHD thing - same questions I asked myself when I started down my path of discovery.

If she thinks you don't have it - then go to another psychiatrist! Bring your test results - I did and it helped! Though my psych said he knew that I had it fairly quickly.  There are a battery of tests they'll ask you - it should be pretty cut and dried!

Most times if there's any doubt they'll explain why so you can understand.  But they are not going to say you are imagining things!! Only an anti-med person would - and that's unlikely ok?

We are here for you! And don't worry - you'll be fine!

I've had all those tests done that you're about to have. Get a good nights sleep cos if they're the same Weiss tests or something like that, it is such a draining day for people like us that have a hard time concentrating for long periods and sitting in one place for an extended period of time.

I didnt do well on the maths tests and I found out that my short term memory needs a lot of work. They'l probably do the same where they ask you to repeat a list of numbers back to them. I could only remember five at the most after that I was completely lost.

Let me know how you get on. I'd be interested to know if the American I.Q testing is the same as the Australian one. I'm pretty sure ours is your's if you know what I mean.

Good luck

Thanks GlenW. Always seems less scarey when it's put as plainly as it really is. I needed a few words of encouragement.

Did you read about my elephant meditation problems?

Hah! You walked right into that one.

Of course they're not the same.

Our IQ is higher.

That's why you're in Ozz.

The smart ones stayed here.

And ended up on the West Coast.

Asked chJonesy, the Yonder Ponder.

She was here.

Saw it with her own eyes, she did.
Oh, and as for the pshrynqueness visits, IT IS YOUR BODY! IT IS YOUR MIND! You live with it 24/7, and have a vested interest in it. All they want is your money, honey.
You know your mind the best. They know pshyt a/b it. They see 1,200 noodles a month. And if they're with Kaiser, they're with ADHDisBogus. They do not believe in ADHD, nor that a child can have cancer, so killed the son of my best friend. And the courts saw it their way, to the tune of ,000,000.00.

As for the I.Q test - I dont think so Mister!!!!!!!

But forget that, did you say your friend's child died cos they refused to admit he had cancer?

That's bloody awful
