The sleepiness may go away. When I first started taking Celexa a couple years ago I'll never forget the first day. I had taken it the night before and the next morning was driving to work. Oh my gawd! I kept getting sleepier and sleepier until I thought for sure I would have to pull off the freeway. It was terrible! I think what helped me was that I became so scared by this that I had an anxiety attack which pushed a bunch of adrenelin through my body which made my heart race which then woke me up! The sleepiness finally did stop within a week. That was the worst day for me.
FWIW, as far as meds making your heart condition worse, I was on Strattera and I had way more heart problems on that then I do on the Adderall with my Mitral Valve Prolapse! I have no idea where Lily gets off saying it's a non-stimulant!
If you can, try to stay on the Effexor for at least a week before deciding if the sleepiness subsides.
Good luck!
ChiefB,
I was hoping to hear more about your heart condition. So I could warn you that Strattera may raise your BP and heart rate. I'm curious to find out about other people with heart problems and what experiences they've had on medication.
Cheekydeeky
Cheeky et al,
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond but I was reading your responses and questions at work and, for some reason, could not log on from that computer. Anyway, my headaches seem to have diminished some, so maybe it won't be a problem after this week. I do have hypertension controlled with three meds as well as an enlarged heart. My PCP and shrink are monitoring my heart rate and BP. So far, so good.
This is day 4 on effexor. I slept relatively well last night. I got up only once to pee. It is now nearly 9am and I seem to have a case of the jitters. That never happens to me unless I have overdosed on coffee and that is exactly how I feel. I have also noticed that I am a bit jumpy lately. My mood is good. No highs and lows. Appetite is good and I have recently noticed a welcomed return of an old pal whom I have seen in quite some time. Mr. Libido is back with a vengence!!!!
I have a follow on visit with my shrink on Friday. I'll keep you guys posted.
Hey ChiefB
At least you now are "official". It sounded like you were pretty sure anyway, but it always is good to have a professional diagnose it.
I was on 60MG of Straterra and my doc told me that 80 was really about the maximum safe dosage. (?) I need to ask him about that next week.
Anyway, keep us posted as to your progress.
What heart condition do you have?
Cheeky
ChiefB,
23% of people taking effexor report sleepiness as a side effect. 3% of those stop taking it because of sleepiness.I didn't see anything about how long it takes for that side effect to go away or even whether it does. Still, 20 out of 23% of the people continue to take it, so that may be encouraging.
Includes pharmacology, indications, contraindications, warnings, precautions, adverse effects, overdose information, dosage information, and research.
Yesterday, I met with an actual shrink who diagnosed me with ADD inattentive type.
She added effexor to my Straterra saying that she was inclined to up my straterra dosage to 120mg but could not due to my heart condition. I took the effexor last night before bed and this morning I had difficulty rousing myself from sleep. I have been up now for around a half hour and still have cob webs.
I don't know where this post is going. I guess I just wanted to get some input from anyone who might have been on effexor to see what there experiences have been. So far, I am not liking this med.
