Gift Ideas For ADHD / ADD Adults | ADHD Information

I got a really nice Sony Clie' a couple of years ago from dh for mmm...  I don't know , maybe a "just because" ........anyway, I used it as an expensive portable solitaire and bejeweled player ...put maybe 3 addresses in it , maybe filled in 3 or 4 appointments, and it DID go off when I needed to be reminded of something one time , and I thought OMG ...this is so cool !! YAY !! and never used it since...     I just need something more visual.....like a 3x3 foot calendar hanging in front of my face 24/7.....LOL...not tht bad , but with me, out of sight is out of mind !! That 's why we have 10 pairs of scissors, boxes and boxes of notebook paper, tons of socks (all of us) ..etc, etc,etc,....

That's tough - I hate gifts so much I've told all I love and know to stop giving me them over 10 years ago.  One problem is I change my mind so often.  So they'll see me hovering around a hobby - get me something related and then they got pissed off that I never open it.  It's just part of having ADHD.

But something from the heart - even just a warm card saying "I love you" and a huge hug is wonderful.  I like those.  And if it's a SO - well sex is always the gift that puts that smile on your face.

Something from the heart - yes that's the best.  No blenders or toasters though ugh.

oops! better cancel my order don't want something else to be hunting for. JK

I think practical gifts are best. ADHD/ADDers are bound to have forgotten something or lost something or not gotten around to something essential. Some gift ideas:

Palm Pilot or other PDA, Treo, Sidekick, or Blackberry. A personal assistant. A maid. Lawncare. Pay an overdue bill. A dozen extra sets of keys to put in fake rocks, give to neighbors and friends, leave at work, etc. Offer to clean car or take car to get an oil change. Help with any major outstanding projects (finish painting the house, help do expense report, help haul stuff to dump, whatever). Carbon monoxide detector (returned from my Thanksgiving holiday to find that I'd inadvertently left on the gas on my stove. That's right, a four day gas leak. I'm lucky my neighborhood is still here.)

THESE ARE PERFECT GIFTS.  i ALSO AGREE WITH GLEN, MAN MY HOBBIES CAN CHANGE AND GETTING THE GIFTS TO GO WITH THEM DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

ANYTHING TO HELP ME ORGANIZE IS THE BEST GIFT OR SOMETHING HOMEMADE ESPECIALLY FROM THE KIDS.

i HAVE BEEN THINKING OF A PALM PILOT OR SOMETHING LIKE IT BUT I WOULD GET TOO FRUSTRATED TO GET IT UP AND RUNNING.

GLEN, i AM GOING TO SEND SEX YOUR WAY.....WILL UPS BE OK.

UPS is fine - hey after the long dry spell I've been having - send it by telegraph I don't care!

Would that make it a

Western Union

in that case?

ok being serious...

-Palm pilot -- My husband gave me that for my birthday one year. I love it and use it as an intregal part of my routine.

- Organizers for whatever hobby an ADDer is into. I was given a really cool organizer for my scrapbooking.. another great gift for me  My kids even helped me put all the papers, tools, etc. in there.

- gift certificates to starbucks!!

- anything that a "normal" would like who had the same interests as an ADDer..

the trick is to know the person and what he or she likes, then get something that relates to them.. I have a talent for gift giving.. never figured out why.. but I actually shop aimlessly looking around, spot something and actually "see' that person having whatever item it is.

That's how I know its the gift for him or her...  Guess its maybe that ADD intuition that was discussed in another thread on here

Sherry

like the 'friday movies', get me two phat bitches and a bag of weed!

On a related sidenote.  Last Christmas husband gave me a DVD/R/VCR combo last year.  He is thinking was she'll be able to transfer all the family videos and VHS movies over to DVD.  Very thoughtful but..... not very realistic. My first thought when I opened it was "great! one more damn thing that I gotta do"  The machine is still in the box without the tape even broken on the seal.

He commented about how hurt he was that I haven't even opened it.  I tried as gently as I could that I don't really 'do' electronics, especially hooking them up to an 18 yr old tv.  And that the real Christmas present would be for him to hook it up and then help me organize the stuff to transfer over.

I feel bad but I can't conceive of being able to sit long enough to figure out how to hook it up AND transfer all that crap over.

So my idea of a good Christmas present for an ADD person would be to finally put all their photos in albums for them or take their family videos and have them transfered to DVD or take on and complete one of their thousands of unfinished projects for them.

I agree. These are all gifts I need, if anyone I know is looking!

I think it would be awesome if someone got me a maid for a day or helped me with some stuff I haven't gotten around to yet.
