side effects subsiding? | ADHD Information

Share
I've heard that side effects eventually subside with many of the
ADHD medications after a week or few weeks.

Is this true for methylphenidate (ritalin / concerta /
metadateCD)?

Does anyone have experience with this? What did you switch to? My son had the headaches and they didn't get better.  It got to where he would start throwing up.  After this began happening daily, we discontinued use.  Obviously this was not the right medication for him.

To me, in my very inexperienced opinion, if it got worse, you and your doc did the right thing to switch. I did get a few headaches but things always got better over time.. not worse.

Hope the new med works out better for you.

Thanks for the replies.

I started having very bad headaches during the day while on
the medication (also metadate CD), and then after one of the
days, became horribly depressed.

I've since been switched to another med (decided by my
doctor), but wonder if I didn't give the methylphenidate
enough time to adjust (it was for 10 days, but became worse
near the end)?

Im on metadate CD, which is the same chemical as ritilan.

Yes, they  subsided for me. I had a wierd feeling in my head at first.. I could also feel it "kick in" with a headrush type feeling.  the 'calm feeling was also pretty intense, and the rebound was really umm I'll just say interesting...

Now, I dont even realize when the medicine kicks in, I feel no different than before, but if I really think about it, I am calmer.. its just a more natural feeling.

The only side effect that has remained is the gassy feeling I get, but I already had acid reflux disease, so maybe I'm just more aware of the feeling.. dunno for sure.

hope this helps a bit.

It just depends.  My son developed eye tics.  He did have them before but the meds made them worse.  We are seeing a ped. Neuro on Friday to see if he can take another med.

What side effects are you asking about?
