If you can find a BioMetics (sp?) dealer - Direct Sales - they have the liquid form. I add it in my 6yr old's chocolate milk. He can NOT taste it!!!
my son is taking clonidine and he has been whiney and having nightmares..i posted a thread about it the other day...we have an appt.tonight with his doctor,i hope he can give him something that won't cause all these problems.. My son had nightmares while on adderal. He was in our bedroom almost every night from a bad dream. At the time I didn't ralize it was the drug but he doesn't have them anymore (we quite adderal over a year ago)
I would try crusing it and putting it in cream cheese. I dont think he would be able to taste it. Hey, anything is worth a try once, right!!!
That is strange as Brooke never had nightmares from the adderal, but from the clonidine. I guess all kids are different and react in different ways to the medication. I do know that when she was on Strattera she was mean and hyper. I like to hear how other child react to medication to help me understand that it is not just my child being bad or aggresive which is ultimately from a side effect from the medication. ADHD is very difficult to deal with and thank GOD we are good parents that care enough to get on this website and do research.. We can never learn enough about or get enough advice and comments from others that help us as parents and especially what matters most, our children.
dianebrooke38686.765462963Adderal made my son mean, too. He would be kind of zoned out during the day and then after school he would be moody and mean. On week-ends I noticed that he would be mean right after he took it and then he would zone out until it started wearing off. He was only on 5 mg. so we decided it wasn't really right for him. He had bad headaches, too. That is nice of you to try and help your friend out. The sleeping pills are also for adults. I only give my daughter half of a tablet, so he should take a whole one. He can do a search on the internet (just type in melatonin) so he can see for himself that it is not harmful and there are no "hangover" side effects. All you can do is recommend it to him and it is up to him to take the first step. i bet out of couriosity he will look into it. Good LUck!thankyou for your response, i am going to discuss this with my sons doctor maybe to see if the medication dose is too high for him at this time.
Hi I am new to this forum but i wanted to share my experiences as well. My son who just turned 8 was dx with ADHD over the summer. we originally tried Adderall XR but after 4 days, took him off due to the side effects (he was really lethargic the first day, consistently complained of an upset stomach, and his heart rate was erratic, skipping beats etc, and by the 4th day he was sooooo hyper it was worse than before medication). we then tried him on strattera which he took for approx 3 weeks. he was always tired, didn't help him at all, became really disruptive in school, unable to complete tasks so we stopped that medication. He currently is on Concerta and taking 27 mg daily (once in the morning). while his behavior and inattentiveness has greatly improved, he recently started having nightmares. he has been on the medication for 5 weeks now and at first he had 1 nightmare about 2 weeks ago, now they are everynight. these nightmares always begin within the 1st hour of him falling asleep and have so far been about bugs and the most recent was about dying (which was due to things he was learning in school about HIV) while i don't know if taking him off the medicine is a good idea since it has helped him greatly in school and academically i am becoming increasingly concerned regarding the nightmares. I am a nurse and have discussed this with other nurses who have children also on concerta and they have not seen the same issues with their children. Any suggestions or similar experiences?
Bailey,
The Melotonin that I give my son is in a liquid form. So I guess that you could add to it just about anything. I am not sure though so you might want to ask your doc.
My son is also on Adderall XR and he seems to be fine with it. From some of the other posts that I have read here . . . the short acting Adderall seems to be the one that causes the most negative behavior changes over the Adderall XR. I am no doctor so do not quote me on this. Just look over some of the posts about Adderall that go back a couple of months - till about Oct. I think.
Disfan,
I was wondering if they explained that a virus is like little microscopic bugs that attack the cells in the body? It all might be related to the HIV information he is getting at school.. Since he is ADD he is probably quite immaginative and could be working this stuff out in his mind when he is dreaming.. unfortunately for your child they are in the form of a nightmare. Just another thought -- especially since he is able to focus better in school. He might really be mulling this new info around in his mind.
I know that we all react differently to meds and it really could be the concerta, but I would explore every avenue to get to the bottom of these nightmares -- as I am sure you are doing yourself! Hope he gets a good, restful sleep soon.

my experiens with melatonin are wel and i had it for 7 jears
ik works well and fast
I'm not sure IMac. It was about three years ago now. I do recall that as a toddler she used to have "night terrors" what I guess people call waking nightmares. She would scream and freak out but appeared to be wide awake looking right at you. When she had the halucinations though it was different, she seemed to notice all of her surroundings and respond to us when we talked to her, but would look around in a panic like she was looking FOR something and then suddenly see more spiders.

Our 10yr old daughter takes Adderall XR and her doctor recently prescrived clonodine. It worked great the first night but after that she said she didn't like it. I gave it to her a few more nights and she said it made it harder for her to go to sleep, but couldn't say exactly why. She also doesn't go to sleep before 11pm or midnight. But even without her meds she is a night owl, so.....I am interested to try the melatonin. Should I check with the doc first, or is it harmless to take?
As for nightmares and halucinations....my daughter also had a time when she was halucinating about bugs. She was wide awake and swearing there were spiders everywhere. She had been on the meds for over a year and her dosage hadn't changed so it was very strange. Upon reading more closely the pamphlet that came with the meds it said this
"Certain foods and drugs can affect the amount of acid in your stomach/intestine and increase or decrease (depending on the drug) the absorption of this medicine. Tell your doctor if you take any of these products: fruit juices, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium bicarbonate, ammonium chloride, sodium acid phosphate, anti-ulcer medicine (e.g. , H2 blockers such as famotidine and ranitidine, PPI's such as omerprazole and lansoprazole0, antacids, methanamine, and acetazolamide."
The day that she had the halucinations she had been drinking quite a bit of orange juice and we also had gotten some of those egg rolls from the frozen food section and she ate at least two. After reading the package it had alot of ascorbic acid in it. Ever since then I try to make sure she doesn't eat/drink very much vitamin C. What probably happened was that it increased the rate at which the meds were released and caused the halucinations, bascially a sudden overdose. After monitoring her vit.C intake she has not had the same problem since.
Well, these guyes know Heroin is the WAY to the light ... perfectly controlled chidren ... sometimes they die but that's ok it is not like they could get real jobs abyway.
Don't let any troll tell you otherwaise ,,,,
Accuse the other party of your worst faults. Insist that you are an avatar of the Truth and that the other person is Falsehood incarnate, or at least "misled." Dwell on errors. Correct them in others at every opportunity. Never apologize unequivocably. If forced to apologize, justify yourself in a way that makes it sound like the other party was responsible for your actions. Write in such a way that the other party looks stupid if they don't respond. Try to be many things at once, so that you can deny everything that is said about you. Say the same thing over and over again. Always strive to get the last word.Even if Wrong. Never let a debate rest. Never allow the other party to withdraw without making it clear that they have lost. Insist that you are misunderstood. If you can't find something to flame the person about, make something up. Convince yourself that you see the "real" motives. Remember: Winning is everything.Use as much posting and bandwidth as possible to seem larger than life.Find products and people who can be twisted to your side.Ignore them.
Dis is a dwug pwomotion site. ZZZZzzzzzzz Wow, how pathetic can one get that they have to get on a website that they have no clue about and make fun of the children that have a disease and the parents that are trying to help them. Whoever you are and wherever you came from go take your medication for whatever it is that mentally challenges you and go crawl under the rock that you came from. We don't want to hear you replies and dont care what it is that you have to say. You obviously have a miserable life and we laugh at the fact that you think someone is actually going to listen to you!
My daughter has had serious problems getting to sleep at night from being on Adderall.
You might want to consider removing amphetamine derivatives (speed -- Adderral) from her diet. One should not be surprised to learn that hard core stimulants keep children awake!!! That said, no point reading the rest of this thread!!
DUH!!!!
So very small and tiny. This is a drug promotion site. Go somewhere where normal people live.Absolutely diane!
They don't want discourse - they want us back to the days of burning witches and bloodletting as the main cures for disease. We won't let them get to us!
I've stopped even replying to them. It's wholly a waste of my time.

As I've mentioned in the past - for sleeplessness as a child (or adult) background or "white noise" can help a great deal.
Even if it's static on the TV/radio - or a purchased machine for it can be a great help. I used to sneak a radio, a TV or even a CB radio to bed to hear the hissing and crackling as it was a lullaby to my weary mind. Parents thought I was being defiant but I was instinctively doing what worked for me.
Do try it! It's a cheap alternative to meds for an ADHD child.
