Karen, welcome to the Board, I think getting tested is a good idea, it may pinpoint out certain areas of your ADD that can be inproved on and a better, DX for med's . . .as far as a 'cure' - no such thing . . .Therapy & the correct med's are the double edged sword to fight our dragon.  I've been on Ritalin @ 2 yrs and it works pretty good for me . . .mosr ADDrs have several 'co.existing' other prob's; low-self esteem, depression, anixity et cet era. . . and these need to be dealt with also.

Karen,

Welcome. You will find this is the right place to be.  You may want to check out the alternatives board as well.  Lots of great info.  Check out everything you can. I'm still learning new things!

Hi, I am 56 years old and diagnosed my own ADD 7 years ago.  I have been on Ritalin since then, first in combination with Wellbutrin, then about a year ago my dr changed the

wellbutrin to Effexor.  I started going off the Effexor (with dr approval) two weeks ago,  He has started Cymbalta.  I have never had a dr who really knows anything about adult ADD.  The one I see now included.  He thinks Ritalin is addictive.  I disagree.  He has decided after all thses years that I should be tested for ADD.  I really do have it.  The meds have helped in many, many ways, they just don't cure it.  What opinioins does anyone have about testing now?  Suggestions about meds for adults?

Thanks!

Karen
