My son has been complaining about his stomach hurting, very nondescript, just aching. Also he complains that his head hurts. We just bumped him up to 40 mg per day. He is 10 and only weighs about 74 pounds. Like most ADHD kids, he is bright and bored at school. We have several children in the class that bully and pick on him because of his impulsiveness, Our kids are like little firecrackers. I was thinking his complaints were just him not wanting to go to school, but now I am not sure anymore. I need some input from others. My son was up most of the night. He slept for 3 hours, then got up for 3. I finally got him to back to bed around 3:30 am. I let him play on the computer or watch TV, it isn't worth the battle. After a little while he will go back to bed. The rule is he can not leave the house. ( We caught him one morning going out to house to hunt gators. We live in FL.) He was complaining about his stomach. We tried some Peptp Bismo. He said it helped. We got an appointment for Wenesday afternoon with his doctor. Finding a good doctor is the hardest part of taking care f our kids. We are not from Afganistan, we are retired Navy and used the local Naval hospital. His old Doctor, the best one yet, got sent to Japan. The new one isn't in tune with us yet. These bullentin boards have been wonderful in getting information. It helps you not to feel like you are such a bad parent. I get very frustrated because people are so judgemental and quick to offer wrong types of solutions. My son is 9 & weighes about 64 lbs. He is going through "neurofeedback" and is on 10mg of Adderall. He was on Strattera & seemed depressed at times. He doesn't like school and seems like his depression is secondary. He has asked me to stay at home and homeschool him. It breaks my heart, because I cannot stay at home. We have thought about private schools or even hiring a teacher to come into our home. As of right now, he is still in a public school. My oldest son, who is 11, is a straight A student and is very fortunate not to have any signs of Add. It is amazing that the two of them are like day & night. I hope soon, we can take my son off any and all meds. Until then, we will continue adusting our lives to make our son comfortable and to help keep his self esteem up.
reruho: Your son's symptoms could be an indication that the dose is too high for him. Both symptoms are common for Adderall. I would certainly bring this up with is dr. How many mg's was he on before you bumped them up? Here are some other side effects from Adderall: rapid heartbeat; fluttering or pounding heartbeat; dryness of the mouth; elevation of blood pressure; restlessness; dizziness; sleeplessness; excessive sense of well-being (euphoria); lack of coordination; anxiety and depression; tremor; headache; increase of muscular spasms; diarrhea; constipation General Negative Side Effects: loss of appetite; sleeplessness; weight loss; irritability; headache; nausea; stomachaches; lack of growth; moodiness; muscular spasms (tics) So your son was given this for his ADHD/impulsivity? Hmm, I'm surprised being of some of it's side effects (ie: restlessness; euphoria; anxiety and depression; sleeplessness..) It kind of defeats its purpose don't you think? Curious, why did you up the dosage? The dose sounds way too high. You need to lower the dose or try a different class of stims (ritalin).bump |
