I’m baacckkkkkkkk!!!!!!!

And because I am so utterly ADHD illiterate, will somebody please tell me what these words mean...

1. ADHD-inattentive (formerly known as just plain ADD?)
                        vs.
2. ADHD-hyperactivity/impulsivity
3. "Classic ADHD"
4. dx ADHD+LD = (LOL... it's like math now!)
5. If ADHD is misdiagnosed one time, and you take a test that tells you you're AUTISTIC and you know you're not, so you do some research and you figgure out you might have ADHD - is it possible that the original tests were wrong?
6. Does ADHD cause anxiety? Because I saw something that said ADHD+Anxiety
7. What about insomnia?
8. What type of school would you recommend for somebody who is VERY smart (could read at age two) but has ADHD?
9. If I'm supposedly extremely high functioning autism, would I have severe ADHD as a result of that? My guess is no, but what do you think?
10. Do antidepressants work as Adderall? Because I was put on a new prescription (because the other one made me fat) but although I didn't get way better, I made Honor Roll for the first time since sixth grade.

And I'm trying to find out who and what ADHD can be if it's genetic, so answer these few questions... (try to keep out abbreviations, as I said I don't know ADHD-speak even though I see you guys use them a lot here!)

1) Do you or someone in your family have ADHD?
2) If so, who? (names/ages?)
3) Is ANY of what Bogus said true? (I just want to know so I can see what he said about WHY ADHD is bogus because I always want both sides of the story...)
4) Do you remember me?
5) If so, didya miss me?

YAY!!!!!!!!

Colin

*Edited to fix some weird word that appeared on the same line as "vs" and I don'r know why, then went back and realizes it says edited by and we wanted an explanation, so here it is.

I'll answer Part 2

Question 1.  Yes, my niece has Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - 11yrs. old

My grand niece has Attention deficit disorder (ADD) - 20 yrs. old

My grand nephew is Austistic (and very, very smart) - 9 yrs - old (I think, oops)

Question 2. Bogus does not present the whole picture and much of what he presented is disproven in some other study/way.

Question 3.  Of course I remember you.

Question 4.  I did miss you because I immediately went to your post when I saw it!

Oh, and I forgot. I believe I have very mild ADHD (would not test to have it so in some books I don't have it) and my sister whos daughter has ADHD is not dx'd but not doubt about it, has ADHD.

As far as 1 and 2, the DSM-IV gives definitions.  I'll try to find these and post them for for.

3.  That usually refers to the hyperactive, impulsive kid, which is what most people associated with ADHD.

4.  ADHD plus a learning disability.  ADHD is not considered a learning disability in and of itself, but someone with ADHD can have ADHD and an additional learning disability.

5.  Yes, dxs can be wrong and they can change over time.  Diagnosing psychological/psychiatric conditions is not an exact science.

6.  ADHD + anxiety means that the person has both, which are two separate DSM IV diagnoses.  I don't know if one can cause the other.

7.  A common ADHD problem.

8.  Highly dependent on the individual.

9.  ADD/ADHD and Austism have symptoms that overlap, but their root causes are different.  You cannot get Autism because of ADHD/ADD or vice versa.

10.  Sometimes, ADD/ADHD people used anti-depressants instead of stimulants.

Part 2

1.  Yes

2.  My twelve-year-old adopted son

3.  Yes.  The DSM-IV is inexact and subjective.  There are no clear tests to diagnose psychological/psychiatric disorders, like there are tests to diagnose heart conditions, cancer, etc.  The disorders listed in the DSM-IV are voted on.

4.  Yes

5.  Yes, of course!
