The ADHD/AUTISM connection book | ADHD Information

good point. My mom used to read to me and I remember her reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. This helped me to recognize words.

As a child if I found the topic boring - then about 2 sentences was the max.  If it's mandatory reading - maybe try reading out loud with your son - you do a line - then he does.  Make it a game and then discuss what it means so he is sure to understand! Fun is ADHD friendly allways.

I used to LOVE sci-fi.  Lapped it up.  Other than sci-fi no luck.  Maybe son has a subject he loves (i.e. trains, dinosaurs, etc.) - find one and get good books with lots of words and that is awesome practice.

I've always had trouble reading and see things differently than I'm supposed to and I have AD/HD so this is not really strange to me. I think it's just a struggle to read especially when I see long paragraphs, I cringe! My 12 year old stepson struggles with reading too. He was still reading little kids books a year ago. Poor kid!

I just got this one on ebay - "The ADHD Autism Connection" by Diane M. Kennedy.  Haven't read it yet - but will tell all what I think.  So far just read the foreward and seems to be interesting.  It's about this ladies' search for something for ADHD diagnosed son - finding Aspergers and mild general autism causing other people ADHD symptoms too.  Intriguing.

Stay tuned! I'll give all my honest opinion in a couple days when I read more.

if you make something fun - it DOES tend to keep our attention!  Heck - I learned way more from sesame street than from a static book.  And it was funny as a bonus.

The book is pretty good btw (I have it in hand now).  But it's mostly quotes from other books like "Driven to Distraction", etc.  I found that kind of unoriginal.  But the whole Autism/ADHD link - they make very good points.  I'll be using it as a general reference as they pool all the stuff in one big book.  Pretty readable so far.
